  1. Thoughts?

I'm not a wood worker, or a construction worker...but my eye wants the blade flipped the other way for some reason. You read left to right...and that is the direction the board would travel into the teeth of a table saw. Yes, a circular saw it's just the opposite, but I'd still like to see...
  2. How do you calculate warp for rear windscreen print?

Ooops...sorry for the gaff. We do a lot of etched glass that involves stenciling compound curves and conical surfaces...I had my processes backward. JB
  3. USPS Regional Rate Shipping - Discontinued?

Ok...so I rudely found out this morning that the USPS has discontinued the regional rate "C" size shipping boxes, and nowhere on their web portal can I find the options for using the regional rate "A" and "B" size boxes either. I've gotten a plethora of emails lately concerning other...
  4. How do you calculate warp for rear windscreen print?

Accurately align a piece of 12 inch wide pounce paper across the entire width of the window, a few inches up from the bottom. Tape all four corners. You should see a "smile" along the bottom side of the paper's edge. Measure the vertical distance in between the "bottom" of the smile at the...
  5. Magnet cutter

In addition to tooling, concept engineering costs are typically the most expensive up-front costs you'll run into. Find a waterjet shop in your area and show them this thread and see what they can do with it. Don't write my idea off just yet...I'm drawing on nearly forty years of manufacturing...
  6. Magnet cutter

In theory, yes they can...they've been doing it for eons. In the attached photo, the two tangent points between the yellow square head, and the orange circle are the points in question. This concept works no matter the circle size. Finding the circle's center would be established by a...
  7. Magnet cutter

I'm half engineer...half tool and diemaker. I would make it with only one arm, and use a suction cup with a bearing for the center pivot. Use an x-acto blade, a swivel blade is unnecessary in this case. A simple Plexiglas template similar to a combination set center-finding square would...
  8. Professional Rendering/Cad software needed

I like AutoCAD LT for its simplicity. We use it only for generating cut paths, but you could do what you propose with it. There are more cost effective solutions such as TurboCAD, but I wasn't impressed with their software. I believe Corel has a CAD product, but I'm not familiar with that...
  9. Is the Gerber GS 15 (Not Plus) Tangental mode Only?

Depending on your drag knife offset, this may or may not work. The telltale corner issues will be evident if the offset is too far off center. We've used a drag knife with our GS using SignLab for a couple of years now. SignLab allows you to check a swivel knife setting in the setup menu...
  10. Lettering Options and Help

  11. Lettering Options and Help

The grammar cop in me says "Fresh" needs to be changed to an adverb. JB
  12. Aren't they clever? /s

Heh...I bet he would've used binary code, had it been a stretched limo... JB
  13. Vinyl for glasses

Sandblast etching would look the nicest... JB
  14. Serious Question...................................

Essentially, offset is the distance between the sharpened point of the blade, and the center axis of the blade (upon which the blade swivels). The plotter "over travels" this amount each time it comes to a corner, thus giving you nice sharp corners. JB
  15. Short run NCR forms = DIY

Ditto...we started doing that a few years back. It's a little bit more expensive keeping the special colored papers in stock, but it sure pays off in saved time. Thanks again, JB
  16. Short run NCR forms = DIY

As a one-man show, I still "run on paper", and lately some of my hand written orders have come up missing only to turn up a few days later...too late to record delivery/shipping info, etc. Electronic work flow is coming, but not quite yet. In the end, our orders and invoices are typed into the...
  17. Postcards Vs Brochures

Have you considered using nice, heavy, rack cards instead? They're somewhere in between, size-wise, and you can dress them up a bit with embossing or foil stamping so they really pop. JB
  18. In Search of 2 of these...

Badger Plug...they sent me two dozen of them (samples) this summer. Awesome good people. http://www.badgerplug.com/ JB
  19. I need advice on a home project that is kind of sign related...

Why go for high maintenance? I'd skip the vinyl and just paint...and then do something textured to look like real clapboard siding...or any other material. JB
  20. One Thing About the Holidays...

Sweeet! But I sure miss my little Yellow Lab, and seeing this makes me want another one. Thanks. JB
