    It is possible I run it from the driver (directly from Illustrator) on a Windows 7 Machine....... took a lot of messing around to get it to work though, so I cannot tell you the exact steps - but it is doable

    Also check the disk space on your machine. I too get this error from time to time and normally it is to do with the rip machine, either being low on disk space or under a heavy load.
