These two machines are very old in terms of technology.. we had a vp540 years ago, it was crazy slow compared to anything now.. for your price range I would look at a used 300 series latex or even a Hp L110

Dusted crystal is a breeze to install... and FYI the newest versions of this film can be heated like wrap vinyl to remove wrinkles and kinks.. we even use a lighter in a pinch and you can’t find the flaw afterwards

We just stripped a vp540 as well and took it to scrap. I’ll see if we still have the box or electronics we took out of it for recycling, if I have the board still you can have it, just pay shipping from Canada.
