  1. New Representation for Art Unica

Still around? Is Art Unica still around? I heard they had closed down but I couldn't confirm it.
  2. HP Designjet 5000ps problem - long post

I'm having an issue that nobody has been able to solve. If there are any HP specialists out there please bear with me and see if you can come up with possible fixes. Our 5000ps started taking a long time (5 mins.) to initialize on startup. It would eventually get to the ready screen and allow us...
  3. If you were to replace hp5500's what would you get

Speaking of the HP 9000 (same as Seiko 64S) I just came across this ad today: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bfs/850616512.html It's not mine and I have nothing to do with it but as long as the printheads are good this is a smoking deal. If I was local I'd definitely check it out.
  4. HP 5500UV, 60 inch..$10K ?

No to the Eco-Solv, UV and dye aqueous only. These printers are real workhorses. If you want a good deal on one try and find a dealer who has taken one in on one of HP's trade in programs.
  5. HP 5500UV, 60 inch..$10K ?

Great printer but $10K with way too much. You can find a used one for about $2K. Even if you paid an independent service tech to go through the machine and bring it completely up to spec you'd spend less than $2500 total. There's not a lot to go wrong with those machines and the common wear...
  6. Epson 9880 and coating..

Make sure you use a coating that is compatible with your specific inks. I've heard horror stories about people using the wrong coating with Epson printers and it ruined the prints. Your supplier should be able to tell you what to use with your current inks.
  7. HP 5500 UV for wraps?

Has anyone tried using their 5500 UV for wraps? I remember seeing a vendor mention a media/lam combo that was supposed to work but it seems like any aqueous ink would be risky. I also wondered how well the vinyl would conform to curves and I don't remember any mention of air release. Just curious.
  8. Help with Enduralam Laminator

This diagram may help to make sure everything is fed correctly: http://www.eastsign.com/Cold.htm You have to scroll down to the bottom to see it. Have you checked to see if your tension is consistent all the way across the rollers?
  9. Car Wrap Question

If that's the case, then $650 is not bad. I'd do that all day long.
  10. Tailgate Wrap

Pick up some scraps of good vinyl/lam from one of the folks here and practice with it. I was able to get some big 3M pieces (with air egress) for the cost of shipping and it was a huge help. You will definitely need a torch or heat gun (maybe both) for any kind of curve. You won't believe what...
  11. Questions about wraps

I agree with Petepaz. I've been wanting to get into wraps for a while now but haven't taken the plunge. I took a 3M class (only $200) and it gave me the chance to try it firsthand. I came out of the class with a new appreciation for the people that do this day in and day out. The process is not...
  12. Just bought a new digital printer, what is the most profitable way to begin?

I'm not trying to dogpile here, but I have to agree with the other posts regarding your purchase/seeking advice on what markets to pursue. I would think your clients would steer you in a specific direction when it comes to new equipment. As a result, you would already have your market as soon as...
  13. Hp 3500CP

When you say "the color blue" are you talking about any blue at all or a specific color (like a pantone for example)? Are you able to print out any test prints to see if the printheads are all firing?
  14. Photoshop or Illy

We frequently design images that have both vector and bitmap elements. Between Photoshop and Illy, what is the better one to use? We are running CS2 on both Windows and Mac. For example, if we bring in a large bitmap image (Aurora Graphics) to use as a background in Illy it really slows things...
