If you are getting a reading of 13.8kOhms that would be considered as a failed test. They should be coming up between 16 - 19 to pass. So, either the I/O board is bad or the print head is bad and is causing a fail test on the I/O board. I would test the print head first before replacing the board.
I have a customer that uses clear application tape. They lay the tape down, print outlines on it and then cut the outlines out with a exacto knife. Seems to work pretty well.
I checked and the mainboard you have is the only one ever made. I sent some info to your e-mail address that should help you get this resolved or at least make a
decision on which direction to go.

How old is this machine?? Is there a way you can let me know the part number on the mainboard? You may have to upgrade to a newer mainboard in order to complete the update.
I would try and get someone onsite to take a look at it.
Data remain doesn't have anything to do with a Firmware update. To me it sounds like you have the older version of the UJF-6042 and not the newer MKll model?? That is probably why the firmware update failed.
On the Older UJF-6042's the lasted firmware is version 2.30. So, if you have the older...
Well the latest firmware version for that machine is V3.10. I would contact your dealer and see about upgrading it.
I would start there for both of your problems.

If you are using Flexi output software or another third party software the command language needs to be set to HP-GL.
GP-GL is reserved for Graphtec output software.
