  1. 3M Prioritizing N95 Masks Overseas

I believe N95 relates to it filtering 95% of particles, because of the size of the virus this is needed to provide adequate protection. I assume my pillow is not making masks to this standard, but I may be wrong.
  2. 3M Prioritizing N95 Masks Overseas

Apparently there may have just been a mix up with the shipment, it's still not 100% confirmed if the masks are in Canada or the USA now. However the US president has apparently ordered 3M to stop exporting masks to Canada and Latin America, however it turns out that the wood pulp used in the...
  3. 3M Prioritizing N95 Masks Overseas

There are reports they did the same with a shipment of N95 masks on route to Canada, the plane was diverted to Ohio apparently, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Seems like a very short sighted move to steal from your neighbour and largest trading partner.
  4. Sick of custom work

What kind of signs do you make? The nature of this business is that it's completely custom and every day is different, some people enjoy that about it. It sounds like you are experiencing burnout, everyone gets it at some point! There are times when I get so fed up with answering the same...
  5. Working from home....security?

We had our company Visa card compromised 3 months ago, someone bought $1500 worth of shoes with it. I called up the bank and cancelled it. I had a new card 2 days later, I was never expected to pay for the fraudulent charge. The only hassle was having suppliers phone me up for the new card...
  6. Art fees set up fees fees fees

You think $25 is fair for an hour of your time? This is a big issue for new business owners, they think they hourly rate is the same as a wage, it's not even close. The $25 /hr is what you should want to take home after all your expenses are paid (actually more but this is an example) Also...
  7. Best Template Font?

We used to sell stencils on our website, but we got to the point where it was eating up so much of our time trying to explain to the general public why they need use have bridges on the letters, I would say 60% of people couldn't grasp the concept no matter how it was explained to them. some of...
  8. UV Printer & Prints Making us Sick

Yup UV prints stink, whenever we get UV printed products in from a wholesaler the shop stinks for days. I don't know if it's harmful but it's noticeable.
  9. Price for mock up

Depends on what it is. If it is a easy text only layout that will take me 10 minutes, I usually just do it and send them a low res JPEG, if they want revisions I get a deposit at that point. For more involved jobs, we get a small deposit from the client, enough to cover our time in design. We...
  10. Looking for a sidewalk A-Frame supplier.- low-mid price point

It hard to go much cheaper than the standard black steel a-frames that most suppliers sell.
  11. The shelves are bare. Where can I get isopropyl alcohol?

Check out auto stores for gasoline anti-freeze it's just 99% alcohol.
  12. Backlit issues

I would explain to the client that the best way to produce this would be in die cut translucent film, have them pick the colours from the swatch book, explain that the end product will look better and last way longer. If you want to print this, print on white translucent, mount to the face...
  13. Anyone had heads replaced on a S80600?

We had 1 replaced under warranty just before the 1 year mark, our printer doesn't run all the time, but we got a fair bit of work out of it. Also ours was a dealer demo machine and was used in the showroom for about 6 months before we got it, and who knows how well they treated it.
  14. Laminating on Flatbed Application Table

Yes we find it tricky with thin laminates as well. We have found if you lower the pressure it helps, also if you have a second person help by holding the laminate and putting a slight tension on it will help. We also have issues applying premask to cut graphics, especially if there is a lot of...
  15. Summa S2T140 or S2160?

I can't speak for the Summa, but our Graphtec does an amazing job at perf cutting. I just had a Job for almost 7000 decals, i had the graphtec contour cut them, then perf cut them out 0.125" beyond the contour cut line, they just popped right off the sheet with almost no effort, saved me a few...
  16. Summa S2T140 or S2160?

i have a 54" graphtec with a 64" printer, I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have wished I had a larger plotter in the last 3 years. Some cut vinyl films and frosted films come in larger than 54", but most everything is 54" and less. if you do need a larger plotter on occasion, you...

That's pretty much a certainty and you know it
  18. Need urgent help with my graphtec 8600

you will be fine, i've printed entire rolls with a ink warning light on and still didn;t have to replace the cart. either the warning is really premature, or the printer uses very little ink.
  19. Different approach to design

Yes, as a corel user the whole concept of linked files confuses me, I know it was originally done to save disk space, but it's 2020, HDD space is cheap!
  20. Need urgent help with my graphtec 8600

if the cut is only off in the one direction and if it's around 3mm or so, it sounds like the plotter isn't recognizing that it should be using tool position 3, easy way to check, if you put the knife nack in tool position 1 does it cut where it's supposed to?
