  1. Prints on clear acrylic

3 options: 1. farm it out to a shop with a flatbed/ 2. do like you were thinking, reverse print on clear, mount, then overlay white/ 3. print to a film or photo paper, apply an optically clear mounting adhesive film to the face, and lay it. The flatbed option is the quickest & lowest cost, the...
  2. laminate or not

We've got about 15" so far at our house, and it's still snowing. Plows left over a waist high pile at the end of the driveway when they went through this morning... Yay! I stayed late yesterday and got caught up, installers can't do anything in this stuff, so the shop is closed today.
  3. laminate or not

I feel yer' pain. I'm up in the middle of the state & we're getting blasted too. Think tomorrow will be a good day to stay home, because, well... I Hate Snow!
  4. laminate or not

Un-laminated graphics have no UV protection, so they'll fade quickly. They'll scratch easily, they'll also have no chemical resistance, meaning soaps and detergents, road oils, fuel, pretty much if anything gets on them it'll penetrate the ink, stain it... For interior graphics, banners, posters...
  5. Mounting machine

For laminating vinyl you'd want to buy a better full featured one, but I never recommend using the machine you use for laminating for mounting and other tasks,it's too easy to damage the rollers rendering them useless for actual laminating. That's where these cheap ones shine, and why they're so...
  6. Mounting machine

A laminator will work, but costly... If you want a low cost alternative, look at the Vevor manual cold laminators, a lot of people use them for mounting prints and application tapes, they come in a few sizes up to 51 inch, and they're only a few hundred bucks...
  7. Clipart help

Was feelin' froggy... Took 3 commercials to draw it while I was watching TV, gave it new colors for fun. Either I'm feeling especially creative, or they air way too many commercials.
  8. Using Magnetic Material Tips

Used to do it years ago on a roland, before flatbeds were everywhere... Worked best with the thinner magnetic material, had to make my own profile, run it with head as high as it would go, slow, uni-directional, and a ton of passes. It can be done, but time wise alone you're better off printing...
  9. Fun Situation.

Here's what's included on proofs and mockups, it doesn't have to be anything elaborate, and isn't. Most times it's at this point people walk off with your work and look for someone to do what you designed cheaper. We have a spot for them to sign it, so they know it's there. All initial proofs...
  10. Fellers ordering anxiety

Ahhh... Didn't look at the colors to see if they were the same. Boss always tells me not to worry about shipping with them, must have something worked out with em'.
  11. Fellers ordering anxiety

Only $116 for 24in x 50yd of 651 at USCutter. I've been checking there more and more lately, availability is kind of hit & miss, but when they do have what you need in stock it's usually cheaper than most places. Can't believe Fellers charges $50 more for a roll of 651... Oh wait, yes I can...
  12. Business Names with no meaning

One of our local bands was named "Sofa King What".... They didn't get much in the way of media attention either, and didn't last long.
  13. Should I move premesis and work in a open environment advice please???

You'll be extremely limited. Even if the office area is large and clean enough for printers/ cutters, the open area won't really be usable when it's cold, or rainy with wind... Plus all the dust that'll get kicked up in that lot would really be a headache, even in a mild breeze since you have no...
  14. Best Third-Party EcoSol-Max Ink

I used Solaris inks in Roland's for years (bulk system). Never had any issues.
  15. A sign related food subject......................................................................................

My dog would have been all over that burrito faster than a hummingbird on crack...
  16. hows the year starting off

We've been crazy busy all year, still are, and no sign of it letting up anytime soon.
  17. Cutter to first vinyl printer...

I think solvent printers are superior for production, but they come with a couple of cons. They require more maintenance, and don't do well sitting idle. If you don't have enough work to keep them going almost daily, you might be better off with a latex. You can get new entry level 54" latex...
  18. Maintaining shop temps

In the graphics & office parts of the building we keep heat set at 65 all winter, AC at 72-75 in the summer. Printer, laminator & cutters are in their own room, it always stays around 68 in that room all winter, between 68-75 year round, and never a massive fluctuation at once. Seems to be...
  19. Business Names

That's gotta raise some eyebrows filling out forms using last name first/ first name last :roflmao:
  20. JV300 Half damper missing

Here's the most common causes of drop outs that you have to keep chasing around. You can probably do a head soak and get it back, but if it returns... Head caps. You already replaced them, also check around the head to make sure there isn't any dried up ink buildup that'll prevent the cap tops...
