  1. Custom Printed "Magnetic" Whiteboard Source?

Depending on what they need to do with it you can paint the wall with magnetic paint then add graphics with phototex or microdot.
  2. Looking for laminator recommendation

Nice bit of kit, but at my age spending $18000.00 on their base rig ain't gonna happen.
  3. Looking for laminator recommendation

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at all options right now, but it's hard to pay double for a GFP when a Qomolongma looks identical down to the paint and controls.
  4. Arlon 3220 Cast laminate - suitable alternative to 3M 8518??

3220 is a nice laminate. We've been running Arlon products for years and like the gloss of 3220. Lays down well without silvering. Over the years we've run them all and kept coming back to Arlon.
  5. Recession

I'm ramping up slightly. Some of the things I do: Personal watercraft, yachts, industrial labeling, construction equipment, class 8 trucks etc... I also print for another shop and weld/fab for hire on various projects. Also adjunct faculty at a local college. Push your existing talents and...
  6. Looking for laminator recommendation

I'm looking at the ebay rigs. There's a 1600 model with air assist and the Qomolongma(spelling?). 99% of laminators are made in China anyway and I don't feel like spending 7 or 8 grand. The few reviews I found on either one aren't complaining about them. Who knows? I need to do something...
  7. Wrap or trim panels?

I trim to the edge then seal the edges with ClearShield. Works a treat and no call backs. Also makes it harder for folks to pick at the edges and ruin the sign.
  8. Over-fence sign structure. Think this is strong enough?

Gino is on point. Get an engineer to design it for you and follow those plans to the letter. Structure has to be built for the wind load in your area. Last thing you want to do is guess and the next big storm ends up "air freighting" the panels and/or structure. Bill has the best suggestion...
  9. Food shortages?

No shortage of chicken, beef or pork at Costco, Sams or the local Piggly Wiggly. But we buy our meat from a small town butcher out in the pickers. Not many of those left where it comes in on the hoof and hours later it's in the display case.
  10. Unique project - need fabrication advise!

Pretty sure the client would have a bout of apoplexy after seeing my quote.
  11. Unique project - need fabrication advise!

What, no taste for adventure?:D I'd do it. Downside is it would be very very expensive.
  12. Starting a print business

OP is already asking the wrong questions. It is not how much this or that costs or how big something is. Gotta start with basic stuff: Does anybody in the organization have any design experience? Can they run Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop? Do you even have the software? Are you willing to...
  13. An amazing opportunity!!!

    Bwahhh-hah-haaa. Thanks Tex, I needed a laugh.
  14. Fonts - Why is it so Easy to Find Free Fonts?

All kinds of fail including crashing the RIP for the Indigo. Takes a minimum 20 minutes to get it back on line. More recently there has been some BS going on with Adobe Typekit. Some of the Adobe fonts will crash SmartStream. Typekit fonts were always safe and always worked. Not anymore.
  15. Fonts - Why is it so Easy to Find Free Fonts?

A lot of the free fonts create issues. I see it in the classroom all the time and warn students not to use "free" fonts. It's all fine until we start to impose the file or send it to one of the RIP's in the lab. When a project fails, more times than I care to count it's a font related issue...
  16. Unique project - need fabrication advise!

Start with artificial foliage since it will be mounted to a backer. It will also eliminate the landscaper wrecking something. The rest is pin/stud mount bits. Lots of bits but very doable. DXF file, lasered aluminum, aluminum studs, some TIG welding yada yada yada. Nothing is impossible it...
  17. Source for oversize magnets

Are magnets necessary? What is the goal of the piece?
  18. printed carpet

Can't those be done with a UV flatbed? Years ago someone on this forum was an early adopter of the flatbed tech. He printed doormats, tennis shoes, t-shirts or anything that would clear the print heads. Did a land office business selling logo'ed doormats to forum members.
  19. Printing On High Visibility Reflective

If it's not a big part of your business sub it out and collect the check.
  20. Mutoh XPJ1641SR Pro over spray issues

You would be surprised at the stuff that you think you cleaned but is still hanging on. Stupid bright light and an inspection mirror are handy for finding tiny specks of dirt. Only other thing is are you using bags or carts? If its carts I had an issue with my Roland where it would randomly...
