  1. Question about installation preference regarding inks - NOT about vinyl.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with UV cured inks? I've heard that about the UV cured inks but not the Latex.
  2. Question about installation preference regarding inks - NOT about vinyl.

In my statement, I was Assuming you treat the inks the way they are supposed to be treated before laminating.
  3. Question about installation preference regarding inks - NOT about vinyl.

Agree. The differences in install characteristics are the adhesive, laminate surface, and feel of the vinyl. The ink doesn't effect the installation.
  4. VP540 - Contour Cut Head Depth

To be sure...does yours look like this? A) blade slightly sticking out the bottom B) magnetic rod that goes in the top that is separate. C) your cap is screwed on all the way only leaving the tip showing. D) The lip is flush against the receiver. Just checking. OOPS...edit* Just saw you...
  5. Wraps and the Worth of Installers

Sure...paying $3 per sft. for a Sprinter with roof is a decent paying job It's 500 sq.ft. of not very difficult curves and no bumpers. $1500...I'd do those all year long as your employee and sell my business. How about the Prius at around 170 sft and bumpers. That wold only be $510. I'm pretty...
  6. Your thoughts on unconventional yard sign production...

We do it for several reasons. 1. We usually lump their signs in with other jobs...that get laminated anyway 2. Trying to mount unlaminated vinyl onto coro is not fun 3. The customer will likely stick the faces together and they'll be ruined. So we just add the extra for lam and it makes...
  7. Your thoughts on unconventional yard sign production...

Every once in a while I do exactly that. I print, laminate, and mount decals to coro and cut them down. I charge $26 each for double sided and this happens when they need them yesterday and don't mind paying. Other than that, sub them out flatbed printed.
  8. Wraps and the Worth of Installers

Print Quality? The different ink types and brands of vinyls do NOT change the print quality. Sorry. As for longevity I'm talking about Cast wrap vinyl, not calendered. (goes without saying in here) I think you are sidestepping the topic of the thread by going into different concerns of color...
  9. Wraps and the Worth of Installers

Who said anything about "paying extra"? This was about the importance of the quality install to make the wrap the product it is. Of course it should look good or why pay for it. You have veered away from my point which was the quality install is an important part of the "product". You compare...
  10. Wraps and the Worth of Installers

In response to a recent thread I feel this needs it's own one (thread). It comes down to this: A Wrapped Vehicle is a Product. A product with a Market Value. It gives a return on the investment via advertising. It can be written off as a business expense. It can be printed anywhere on any...
  11. Avery MPI1005 EZ RS +DOL1360 vs 3M 180CV3 + 8518

Sure, a good installer "CAN" install any of the big name brands but they ALL have preferences. Ease of Use and Time to Install dictate why they prefer one over the others. In combining that fact with your next statement of course you prefer to pay per sq.ft. rather than per hour. Really...
  12. Wow, that's a high price

Yep, all they're doing is taking their sq. ft. price and multiplying it by 2. They aren't figuring in any time for grommets, design, overhead or anything. Just banner material and ink. If I could find a way to sink clowns like this, I'd probably put an attempt in. Anyone with me?
  13. VENT - Things that annoy you in the print industry.

I can already see where I could improve on that. Have a plastic outer shell...so when you're holding it, the heat from your hands doesn't conduct right to the metal. Derp.
  14. china trying to steal my domain name

I wouldn't even reply to the email. none of those domains have a .com suffix so they have no berring on your business whatsoever, that is unless you have a market in China or India. I get emails all the time for people wanting to know if I want to buy a domain they own that is similar to mine...
  15. "New" pet peeves

I have a hard time talking customers out of putting a cell phone number as well as an office number or toll free number on their wraps. ....PS...do people still use fax machines?
  16. "New" pet peeves

Still weird that people still want the www. on there.
  17. Avery 1105/1360z + HP360 Latex ink = FAIL!

Anyone else noticing that the Avery 1105 is more aggressive than the 1005? It's just as tacky as 3M180C V3 now. A partial truck that was supposed to take a few hours is taking twice as long as it used to just because of this new vinyl...and nothing we're doing is any different than what we've...
  18. In LOVE with the hp 570 latex printer

So it seems if I was considering purchasing one of these, I would need to make sure there is a solid, long standing technician nearby as well as figure in ongoing upkeep costs? What are we talking here as far as "other things" beside the sensors that need maintenance? There's hardly a thing on...
  19. In LOVE with the hp 570 latex printer

A regularly schedule maintenance by a technician to change sensors?
