For the VG-540, you should be replacing at maximum every year, those are way too old, so I'd start with replacing them.

For the cap top, are you certain that it was installed correctly? It's pretty easy to tell if the cap top is the issue, when you try to pull with a syringe if you're getting a bunch of air and a bit of ink when pulling or you hear an air leak sound.

How old are your cap tops and is there any damage to the head, could be a sealing issue.

Sounds like it may be one of the following, either the dampers need replacing, there is a leak in the ink lines or the cap top isn't sealing correctly.

This is a desktop printer correct? It sounds like the head is either clogged up or damaged. Typically it's cheaper to replace then repair these as they aren't very expensive in comparison to actual production printers. Not sure if the head can be removed, but if possible without damaging it...

You can try to exchange the head, but I don't believe the head is your issue if you were getting a clean nozzle test prior. Sounds like ink starvation. How does the yellow ink line look, is it filled?

Now that you've pulled ink through, are you getting any better results?

Stupid question, but have you restarted your Printer and Computer, as I used to have a similar issue when I had a switch and would need to restart both my Versaworks / sometimes computer and the printer, then it would work again.

I could be wrong, but that doesn't look 3D, more like a print illusion with how the layers are setup in Illustrator or Corel to give it that effect.

The reason ink may not be coming through could be due to the cap top not sealing well. I'd change the cartridge first just to confirm that isn't the issue, then if it persist, I'd change the cap top. From what you describe, it sounds like ink starvation, if you've already change the damper...

Have you tried changing the cartridge(s) to see if that has any effect? Unlikely, but there is a chance it could be the cap top not sealing completely. Those 2 would be your cheapest options. Also which ink configuration do you have?

To confirm if it's disconnected or broken, remove the back shinny cover where the media goes in and you should be able to see.

Have you tried playing around with the profile or using a different one? Maybe speed and heat could be adjusted.

It could be clogged nozzles or it could be from a head strike or lack of use, hard to say. Flushing could help, but not guaranteed. The lowest cost option would be changing the cap tops first to see if that helps any, as although it only has light use, these machines do require more frequent cap...

Have you tried slowing down the cut and playing around with heat settings too?
