  1. Maybe this will help you rethink pricing...

I just want to say... my generation has been BOOMING with increased interest in hand lettering signs/murals and the likes. I hope you get to see and be a part of this :) For ex. Letter West just happened. I think it's more curated for letterers who offer their styles as a service but it's great...
  2. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

don't worry! Posts like these help me learn more so that's someone :P
  3. Any real life users of the HP Latex R series have their thoughts on it?

I've also had issues printing small objects for another client even when using photo and photo plus. Tiny details are needed to be clear and the material chosen just did not do the job. The crispness of the R came out as the quality the client is looking for.... soooo yea. sorry, not sorry :(
  4. Any real life users of the HP Latex R series have their thoughts on it?

So we are good with the color we get now. What sold us on this was moreso the speed... and a big plus to the whole cleaning factor. Despite our good efforts such as wiping down using different solutions, drying, and even using an ionized air gun, we have issues with wipe marks, hand/finger...
  5. Hi from the Philippines!

Thanks for the info! I'm very well aware of Jeepneys, I've just never seen a sign being painted so I thought that process was really cool. Thanks!
  6. Illustrator CMYK /RGB settings (and print)

re-reading and I personally don't understand saving the PDF in RGB for print. LOL like I said, I always save my pdf/eps/ai files in cmyk. flexi asks if you'd like the printer to use spot colors. for onyx, I make PMS colors into spot colors.
  7. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

might I also suggest checking out tutorials. if you're not going to take a class to learn how to use illustrator, you may be better off teaching yourself with tutorials and with trial and error. I was doing this in HS with photoshop and have been doing this successfully since working at the sign...
  8. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

these are funny. 1. I don't think you can remove the x/y as that is the location of the object/shape in the artboard. you ARE however able to remove/pick and choose any tools from the side toolbars. (window -> new tools panels/manage tool panels) 2. you can have the "color window" open and it...
  9. New neighbors are high end residential. Best marketing angle?

I think you've answered your own question.... I think mailers, cold calls, or even going directly to them may be nice if you really want their business. and of course, upping your own signage game. They may not even know how to use your services unless you point out what you can do and offer
  10. Illustrator CMYK /RGB settings (and print)

gradients, in our experience, was always an issue when printing PDFs. I JUST printed a wrap using the pdf file but that was a solid color and it turned out great. it was saved in illustrator and brought into flexi. Assuming you're using flexi or onyx as your rip, I more than often bring it in...
  11. Hi from the Philippines!

Genuinely curious too. I visited the Philippines this summer and saw all these signs and graphics shops but the spaces look very small and didn't get a chance to check them out. ALSO this is very satisfying to watch. so amazing!
  12. Maybe this will help you rethink pricing...

I hope their layouts are easy to navigate through. I have a hard time receiving layouts from companies "designers" and struggle with separating the vehicle outlines and the actual artwork. Though it's fun trying to decipher it. You would think having a degree/background/experience, you'd know...
  13. Illustrator CMYK /RGB settings (and print)

I think I had issues with an RGB file sent to the printer.... Here's what I do that hopefully helps: File is in CMYK color mode in illustrator. Save as TIF or JPG but change the color model to RGB and have EMBED ICC Profile checked. My prints don't come out muted (though I don't understand...
  14. Any real life users of the HP Latex R series have their thoughts on it?

Went to the demo, printed something that took FOREVER on our FB... it printed it in like.. 40 mins (makes sense, lots of details).. Colors came out opaque (with white behind it), more vivid, and scratch resistant on the ink (not so much on the acrylic hehehe) We printed our other samples that...
  15. Suggestions Creating a icc profile for window perf

You mean with a paper back? Cuz that's what I've used (Hexis window perf) …. It works fine, just not with HP's suggested perforated vinyl print profile.

  17. Does an actual vinyl exist with magnetic capabilities?

This sounds like a job we just did for a tech company. We had ours custom built by a company that builds tradeshow builds and just applied vinyl with dry erase lam over it.
  18. Vinyl on floor - how to make it stay on the floor?

General formulations has a floor specific vinyl with a floor specific anti-slip lam. We've successfully used a temporary vinyl not meant for floors (but this also depends on what kind of floors) for an event and had no issues... very important to use vinyl meant for it's use tho.. yknow...
  19. Need Help Ai scaling help

100.00" x 100.00" scaled down 10% is 10.000"x10.000" (the decimal just moves over 1 point). On illustrator, there is the scale tool on most left hand sides of illy.. I select my object, double click the scale button, and scale up 1000% or scale down 10%. Using your example of 10 feet high and...
