silk screen the nameplates what ever color and text that needs to be on there. trim with metal sheer, round corners and punch hole (male/female die punch) then you can also steel stamp them if need be (we do all that in house)
try stouse or find a silk screener in your area to make them for you. stouse probably doesn't make small qty's but the silk screener depending on how busy they are will do it.
i just use the black in illustrator then the clear vinyl profile in versa works (which will put you at high quality print) that is usually fine. once you are at high quality and then up the ink density it's just too much ink. if you do feel you need a double pass on the print i would use the...
this is the problem. the chrome or mirror products don't harm the lamp. the reflection of the light off the chrome material has the potential of causing the in to dry in the print head.
i have done short runs on chrome or mirrored vinyl with no problem (2-3 ft x 24in). print brushed silver with no problem and have printed on a sparkle metallic as well.
try not to make a habit of it. also make sure you do cleanings afterwords.

try Yazoo mills.
not sure if they have your size stock or if it is custom also not sure of the quantities they sell but they make and sell tubes/cores

did you do the repeat in versaworks or in the original file?
if you did the repeat in the original file check to make sure you don't have 2 cut lines overlapped. if you do it will cut twice on the same decal
don't know much about the latex printers but we have had roland print/cut machines for over 10yrs now and the solvent printers have been very reliable also easy to use.
the machine it self is pretty easy to maintain. clean it once a week and that's about it. versawork is easy to use as well and...
