  1. Opinion Biting the bullet and looking for a new eco-sol/solvent printer

Everyone is going to suggest whatever brand they use, pick the brand that has the most LOCAL support, when they break down you don't want to be waiting a week for a tech
  2. Roland Flat-out Savings on Roland UV Printers

Of course you do, you sell them! Every salesman think's whatever brand they sell is the greatest. If your company started selling Roland Printers tomorrow, guess what brand would all of a sudden be the best.
  3. Cool Signs in Montgomery, TX, doesn't pay their bills

As far as I know there is no time limit on how long you can run a card, however, make sure you have proof that they owe you, if they dispute the charge with their cc company you are going to need proof that they owed you the money and that they gave you the card number to use and keep on file.
  4. Opinion Biting the bullet and looking for a new eco-sol/solvent printer

with roland you have 3 size options besides the 20" desktop printer, 30", 54" and 64", so if you need to print 40", you are stuck getting the 54" machine. Take a look at the new Tru-vis machines
  5. Suggestions Brick Wall Vinyl?

That makes no sense, how is charging your client for the correct materials to complete the job properly and professionally "overcharging" them? If you use a cheap vinyl and the product fails in a month, how do you think that makes you look?
  6. Removable Wall Graphics - aka like Fathead

I have used Avery 2611 in the past with good results, however I just printed some wall decals for my sons birthday a few weeks ago, I applied them and went to remove them 3 weeks later and it ripped the paint off the wall, and it just a little bit, a huge piece about a foot square. Photo...
  7. Exterior pylon signs: Polycarbonate VS Lexan VS Acrylic....

I havn't had any issues, but admittedly I don't do a ton of these types of signs. I thought that a 5'x12' sign would be best done as a flex face no?
  8. Exterior pylon signs: Polycarbonate VS Lexan VS Acrylic....

Grimco here sells 3 options 1. polycarb 2. acrylic 3. Impact modified acrylic I was told impact modified acrylic has the same strength as polycarb and doesn't yellow. all 3 are within 5% of each other price wise, so I usually use the impact modified acrylic.
  9. removing scratches from oracal 210 gloss

The vinyl should have very little impact on the cost of a job like that, your expense is in the install, getting the trucks on site to install those graphics safely. The couple hundred dollars saved in using a cheap vinyl will come around to bite them in the a$$ when they have to pay to...
  10. Thinking about setting up at a marina next summer...

I can see the appeal of doing production on site, it creates an impulse buy for the boat owner, but I can see some owners wasting hours of your time picking just the right font, colour etc.
  11. Roll decals

Easiest way is to order them from a supplier who does this and mark them up, the amount of labour involved to get them on a roll would cost more than just ordering them and being done with it.
  12. Printing on Metallic

Sou do like you have it backwards, at my shop I tell the client what we can and can't do, not the other way around.
  13. Printing on Metallic

Sounds like you need to ensure the client is on the same page as you, if he demands an exact match, he needs to go to a body shop and pay to have it painted to match, anything else is a compromise. It sounds like your client's expectations are out of the realm of possibilities with vinyl.
  14. Cool Signs in Montgomery, TX, doesn't pay their bills

We had a contractor try to stiff us on an exterior sign job, multiple calls and emails went unanswered for 9 months. We had to get a lawyer involved, they sent a letter of Demand stating if the didn't pay us in 7 business days we would sue him in small claims court. He ignored the letter so...
  15. 3/8" zinc ada

We do actually get asked to quote on quite a few of these types of projects, possibly not as many as you but enough to know what I'm talking about. I know for a fact that if I substitute a product in a RFQ my quote will be rejected, I am allowed to submit a second quote if i wish, but one of my...
  16. 3/8" zinc ada

Around here, bidding on something other than the spec without approval is a sure fire way to get your quote rejected, and if they happen to find out after the contract has been awarded you are on the hook to give them what the asked for at the price you quoted.
  17. 3/8" zinc ada

This is a huge pet peeve of mine, Architects put out these tender packages with elaborate specs, you quote it based on spec, don't get the job and find out that whoever did the job just used standard materials. I've tried calling them a few times and explaining that we can achieve the same...
  18. Looking for input regarding going 100% mobile - no brick-and-mortar

Aside from all the other issues that others have brought up, have you considered how this would effect your reputation as a sign shop? It seems to me it would give off a "fly by night" vibe and potential clients might not feel comfortable spending money with you if they feel you won't be around...
  19. HP latex flatbed printer!?

I would be curious to see how this would work, I would think the high heat needed to cure latex inks wouldn't work on a flatbed, especially on substrates like coroplast.
