you need to look under the printhead carriage and see what's up. probably something stuck on there that's causing the issue.

I don't really see the need to pause it... as far as not swapping inks, if the ink runs out you can change it during print.

seems to me to be a waste of ink to take them out with 10-20% left based on worry.... in 5 years i have probably sent 20 heads back to HP for free ones, why worry about heads and waste ink when you can get them for free.......

I have had 4 HP 25500's and an HP315, currently running 1 25500 and the 315, I have never taken an ink cart out until it says its empty.
