Well, it spools out that much to finish curing the ink, then feeds it back to the end of the print....so if you have only a foot left, and it tries to run it out to cure, then it will either a) jam up if attached to the core or b) if unattached, pop up an error that it has become detached, and...

General Formulations 202 should work as well...low tack removable. And I think it's matte finish.

One thing I miss about our old Roland printer....being able to print on 'just enough' material. Can't do that on the HP Latex. Even if I think I have plenty left, the printer has a different opinion, and seems to require an extra 3 yards at the end.....and if it's still attached to the core...

I've found that to be true with certain markers....I forget which ones, but some are hard to erase unless it's true dry erase laminate.

We hired a "designer" some time ago, and I would go over his files after he saved them and proofs were sent. I would find this exact thing in the files.....stray elements, mostly off of the artboard, copy left in behind other elements, oddly grouped objects, clipping on parts that a simple node...

Um....don't print on dry erase lam. Laminate with it. Print on your substrate or vinyl.

The moral to this story is, ignore him.
