I put five Hanley modules on my hi-fi rack pointing down onto my components. I just wired them to a 12V DC adaptor and put blue translucent vinyl over them to change the color from white to blue.
1) I would recommend 3M 1080 or a similar air release vinyl for these applications. It will be a lot easier to apply over contours than regular vinyl.
2) I would suggest removing the emblem and reapplying with VHB tape. The handle should be easy enough to cut around.
3) Mask, but do not wet...
I'd choose Oracal 5800 over 5600 for street signs. 10 year durability and higher reflectivity are the advantages. 5600 is conformable like the 680 and is geared more towards vehicle wraps, as ikarasu mentioned.
I'm glad this thread popped back up. I paid attention to it a few months back and we decided to switch from OEM Mimaki SS21 cartridges ($125) to the comparable Bordeaux cartridges ($70.00). I have seen no obvious differences in color or performance and the way I figure it, our lowly small town...
We will let rush job prints outgas until the next workday, so roughly anywhere from 16-24 hours later, laid out on our worktables to dry overnight. We are a small shop and we have a 5' x 9' RollsRoller and two 4 x 8 tables, so we usually have plenty of room if I feel I need to lay something out...
That sounds way low, especially when dealing with corrugations and rivets. Just out of curiosity, I see Avery 700 is a calendered vinyl. Are you sure this is the best type of film for the job? I only use air release cast vinyl like 3M 1080 or Orajet 3951RA on corrugated and riveted trailers...
I did it just to show that something with as much detail as that photo can be perfectly traced into a vector with little loss of detail. That is, after all, what the OP asked for, no?
That was an autotrace that I set to trace the image in 36 colors (You can trace in as few or as many colors as you wish. It took about 60 seconds after opening the jpeg file to do the autotrace and save to an EPS file.
