  1. What is the best software for CNC router?

We've been using Enroute for several years. It a good program. Wish it didn't have a dongle though. We like to do toolpathing at home sometimes but if you lose your dongle in transit you have to but a whole new software program instead of replacing your lost dongle!! That's really expensive!
  2. Will the chaos ever end?

I hear that - we are really busy also and keep getting more jobs to bid with little time to bid. I've turned away a couple of jobs - where were they last year when we were walking around with our thumbs up our...;)
  3. Reflective Paint for Street Signs?

I tried some reflective paint that was sold in a rattle can - not sure if it was Krylon or Rustoleum. It's been several years but the results were not good at all. It was barely reflective. I would try the reflective vinyl - the adhesive is extremely aggressive on 3M Scotchlite.
  4. Beware malicious email

I was at a local vendor's website looking at their products for purchase. I've bought from them for several years and they are a good company. I did not buy anything, just looked around. About a day later I get an email from this same company with an attachment saying "invoice". I figured this...
  5. Komatex VS Komacel ?

We use a lot of Excel brand PVC which I am assuming is similar to Komacel. Make sure you lightly sand or scuff the surface before painting so the paint sticks really well. We use something similar to a scotchbrite pad for scuffing. As long as your paint is semi gloss or gloss you should have no...
  6. Vendor Application packet - really?!

New client asks for a quote on one custom made street sign. So I give him the quote and he agrees to proceed with the job. I tell him I need 50% deposit. I get an email with a "Vendor Application" file to be filled out by me and submitted to his company. The application is 26 pages! They also...
  7. Exterior Acrylic Latex Paint that Cooperates with Paint Mask

I feel your pain...I recently posted about a paint mask problem causing me to "eat" a sign due to mask leaving adhesive residue on a freshly painted surface. I am going to try using a different mask that was recommended - Gerber Ultra paint mask. I have also switched to DTM (direct to metal)...
  8. Ronan Aquathane Clear Coat

Has anyone used this product? Reviews? I want to paint a faux finish on a sign background using latex paints and then clear coat over it. I'm looking for a matte or semi gloss finish.
  9. Paint mask fiasco

Thanks, I'll try the Gerber mask. I am thinking maybe the 3M 50 went bad although I had it less than 1 year, it was a 50 yard roll and there is no date on the roll when purchasing. Tried calling Grimco about it but didn't get an answer, will try again. They should put dates on these rolls. We...
  10. Paint mask fiasco

Thanks for the reply. If I follow you, are you cutting a vinyl paint mask on a plotter and then applying it on top of a previously painted raised surface area after the background is routed? So, if you want a brown background sign with routed in tan letters, you first rout in the letters, then...
  11. vinyl shutter paint question

Sounds to me like they got a batch of bad paint. As someone said, maybe the store mixed it wrong. I hate to think they painted all their shutters with this stuff. If it is bad paint it will have to all be stripped off and repainted. And the best you will probably get from the store is the cost...
  12. Paint mask fiasco

Over the years we have experimented on various techniques to paint signs that are routed. We use a lot of PVC because it cuts well on the CNC router. We painted a 3x5' piece of PVC, let it cure, applied paint mask, routed out the letters, painted in the routed letters and then it's time to peel...
  13. employee benefits

Sounds interesting - I'd like to know any/all options.
  14. employee benefits

My accountant told me this is not an option as this would be considered additional income, which would be subject to all the payroll taxes.
  15. employee benefits

We are a small company, just 3 people. I'm looking for information on employee benefits - health insurance, 401K plan, etc. Any suggestions? I know the franchises offer benefits, do they get group rates? I've looked around before at a trade discount (USSC) program but did not see much advantage...
  16. Need Help Wall wrap or banner vs Mural - need advice...

    120 x 60 = 7200 sq. ft. I've heard mural quotes, hand painted to be $10 - $20 per sq. ft. That's $144,000.
  17. EstiMates Software

I've been using EstiMate for over 10 years and have not had that problem. Are you just not able to create more than 4 quotes on one day?
  18. Paint Failure

Had something similar a couple years ago. Put up a whole set of HDU letters and used a Ronan bronze top coat. Was fine until it rained. Then bubble city. Replaced the entire set of letters are using a Porter top coat - guess what. Same thing happened. Finally did a third set and used Sherwin...
  19. Sign mechanical/drawing "call out" software

The website doesn't work. Where can I find the drawings?
  20. Question Sandblasting Komacel vs Komatex

I don't have an answer for your Komatex question but just wanted to say that we make a lot of PVC signs that simulate sandblasted wood. We rout the background on the CNC using a woodgrain pattern. We tried sandblasting PVC one time and the results were terrible. As for paint, we have been using...
