i have estimate 2.0 and it has been a great help to me... as i was always a wimp with pricing. it gives me a price based on the hourly rate and material markup. i just check to make sure the time it estimates the job will take is right and it comes up with the price.
i was just like Bob M...
if you can feel confident in the used equipment.... the sc540 is way faster. i have used both and the quality of the print is the same and they are both built well. speed is the only real difference.
some of the older sc540 models didn't have the 3 heaters?
how is all this effecting the more established shops.... i've been in signs all my life but have only been on my on in biz for a year so i got nothing to compare too.....
yep our industry is perceived as all is done by the computer and any one could do it..... its not like that with HVAC and contractors. people don't see the value in a skilled experienced artist.... because anyone can do the everyday coroplast and banner stuff with a computer and plotter...
Dan i was wondering if you saw that ... a van wrap for $650
why would anyone do that.
i've done things cheaper than i should sometimes but 650 seems would even cover material!!!
yeah i'm always wondering how some keep going... compared to most here i'm usally on the low side but like i posted earlier there was a large sign shop in near by auburn pricing mags $25 a pair!!! i'm like OP i sell'em for $70 and want to go up but i guess i ain't got the guts. shops around...
If you are using a correct profile... then it must be in your software. i know in flexi i can double click the color in the palette and change its rendering intent to spot and get more vibrant colors... in the rip it is set for no color correction on spot colors
jpgs imported in ..are...
bob is right ... the RIP will translate the file to get the colors.
cmyk values will be translated how do you think RGB files get printed. your profile is the issue.
more than likely rgb black... 100% k blk will print the same color..
you'll need flexi for the RIP unless you have something else... i use illy then print from flexi. flexi has some features that are better than illy in my opinion... its font preview and node editing are better. plus flexi cost so much because you can not only design but RIP and cut...
sounds like a profile problem ... and monitor calibration. if you are having to use canned profiles and not making your own the color will always be hard to get perfect. but with most provided profiles if it is the one for the media you are using should get you pretty close.
first thing...
if you are using a RIP to print to a large format printer it could be the rendering intents. rasters (png, jpgs, etc) most of the time are set to perceptual while vectors are set to relative colormetric or something other than perceptual. you have to change there intents to be the same.
i think the new one looks pretty good... outlines still a little heavy for my taste. i try to o by if you need outlines to seperate your main copy from the background there probaly isn't enough contrast to begin with. outlines enhance legibility that is already there and add interest
it seems the outlines are too heavy... sometimes that strong of an outline makes letters less readable.. and "call Today" being a different script and the slant of it bothers me
i also think if that's worded correctly a Roland SolventJet was a roland machine altered by someone else and ran true solvent inks.. it had red and blue inks along with CMYK if i remember right
GXsign that is what i thought ... what you put into your design is translated at the RIP according to the profile.. so grays are very profile dependent.
Arstron are you saying in cmyk that if you put %100blk and 0% on the others it only prints with blk ink?
plus with the gradient from blk to gry don't all RIPs use more colors than blk to make the fade? so thats where making your own profiles come into play?
i know neutral gray is next to...
sarge seems like a good guy... the things he said here ..i don't think he meant them the way they were taken. he explained "illegal" was slang....also sounds like he was just taking up for the new guy. newbs do get it rough sometimes here.
