The most useful difference is when the plotter fails to see one of the registration marks. You get a mark scan error on the FC7000 and have the send the job again.
On the 8000 it tells you the scan fails and gives you a chance to help the machine locate the mark it missed. Very useful for long...
I would think closer to 40-50k, just because the machine is shorter does not decrease the cost proportionally. Both printers use the same number of parts, some are just shorter.

This is a problem with Flexi, the printer is not "smart" enough to rearrange a print job.
I have seen the problem you are speaking of, I have the customer re-layout and re-rip the file.
The 1204 has been replaced by the 1304 to all dealers except SignWarehouse.
The 1204 will only print a true 48" in uni-directional mode. Printing in bi-directional limits output to around 47.5", we slit our media to around 50" for 1204 customers.

If your use to a 30", 48" will be a nice upgrade. Only you can decide what size is best for your business.
We just took a used 48" ValueJet, Cutter, and Laminator back in on trade if you're intrested in used equipment.

The only time I hear dragging on the pinch rolls is while they are up and I am manually moving the head. It makes a clicking noise as it moves over the rollers.
How about a static issue? Any chance you are generating static while printing causing the problem to come and go? (as the machine charges and dis-charges)
