  1. Fun with Vectorization

Communication is key. Some people here think that this looks fine for $35 while others say it should have been a $200+ job if they wanted it to look good. That is the big problem. If you shop on price you never know what you will get. Had I wanted/taken the job and quoted $200 the customer...

  3. Fun with Vectorization

Back from vacation and found this thread. No I would not have taken on this job. As mentioned some art is not ideal for vectoring. And certainly not $35. It is not an impossible vector job but you cannot expect much for $35. I would rather turn down a job than make a promise I cannot keep. Here...
  4. Adobe's new pricing strategy

But not everyone NEEDS to upgrade every year. If you don't you are now being penalized. Does this mean they come up with updates (err bug fixes) and feature bloat more often and force everyone to pay? I can understand someone who is back on cs1 or cs2 should pay more but cs4 users? With this...
  5. Adobe's new pricing strategy

I believe they are offering the cs5.5 upgrade at a 20% discount to get people ready and ease the pain FWIW. For anyone that is on the fence it makes sense now. Full pricing is steep
  6. Adobe's new pricing strategy

either way it is like a subscription. If you buy the latest and greatest either by desire or necessity you must upgrade to avoid the steep price increases
  7. Adobe's new pricing strategy

They better not. That would be enough to get a max exodus from the suite
  8. Adobe's new pricing strategy

"In order to qualify for upgrade pricing when CS6 releases, customers will need to be on the latest version of our software (either CS5 or CS5.5 editions)" So if you have cs4 or older when cs6 comes out, you MUST pay full price for cs6 or pay the subscription fee
  9. Adobe's new pricing strategy

http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-57329264-264/adobes-new-pricing-plan-ouch-users-say/?tag=cnetRiver From what i am can tell, Adobe wants you to either pay for a subscription plan or upgrade every time a new version comes out. You are penalized for waiting too long between updates. They are...
  10. What do you do???

Yeah I just had a very regular customer do something similar. I priced a job for $6 (my minimum) and he said my competition would do it for $4! Really? $2 I know for a fact I have done several jobs and given him a good deal. Or quoted x number of dollars and ended up charging him less. I could...

  12. thinking about going to the apple side

what are the specs on this $15,000 Mac? Your $4500 PC?
  13. thinking about going to the apple side

Wait now we are comparing coffee to computers? I cannot speak for all Apple owners but I chose Apple for the OS, first and foremost. Yes apple and PC's use mostly the same internals. So maybe is Apple a cup of coffee in a fancy aluminum cup and PC's are the same coffee in a plastic cup? Now...
  14. thinking about going to the apple side

My preference is the Mac for the following reasons.. 90% for the operating system. 10% for the incredible product design and details that make their desktop and laptop look IMO better. However the cheesegrater Macpro 2007 desktop that I own has looked the same since they were introduced in 2006...
  15. Tutorial on using Illustrator to create oblique projections

But that deletes the whole segment. Doing so in Illustrator does not eliminate just the anchors. You would have to draw the missing segment back in. Not a big deal on a couple letters but this same function on a serifed set of letters or dozens of letters would be time consuming All fine for...

doesn't windows have a restore function? Just restore to a recent date when it did work
  19. Tutorial on using Illustrator to create oblique projections

Hmm why not. Isn't the 45 degree just a fill? It is filling the stairstepped shape so that still remains. Unless I am missing something The gray box in the last step uses that stairstepped shape
  20. Tutorial on using Illustrator to create oblique projections

The part about the object>blend>make does not work too well. You end up with objects that are stairstepped. I wish the SMOOTH extruded look was that easy using the blend
