  1. Question 3M Vinyl Consistent Problems

I too have noticed the dark grey stripes or even drops on the back of the film recently and we get ours direct from 3m. I have not noticed an issue with performance yet. As far as the 'runs' in the vinyl, I sometimes get these as well, mostly on the hoods of vehicles. In my experience I...
  2. 330 Major Color Consistency Issues

This is interesting... So you are dealing with the same problem with 2 different machines? A mimaki (solvent) and an HP latex? What happens when you print the same file on both machines using the same rip? Does the color change depend on the panel size? Is it only when printing multi panel jobs...
  3. Printing on clear vinyl

Keep cutting. From what I understand White inks are not that great still. The Gerber edge sounds like exactly what you need. You can use multiple different foils that will generally hold up better over time. They have metallic films, white films, chrome, etc... and all the different types...
  4. Not sure what would cause this...

What rip are you using? How are you connected to the printer? USB or 15 pin? How often are you cleaning the print heads/capping station? One thing that I used to do about once a year when running my mimaki is completely unplug the computer from the printer while it was off and than restart...
  5. Vehicle templates

The subscriptions are nice. Try Image club 10. Not only do they have templates but also stock images and vectors.
  6. Mimaki CJV30 Strange Problem (Overspray / Blur)

Sebb, your look like it's a head strike issue, or a build up of ink/debris. Printhog- the mimaki's do not have a disposable capping station... they just need to be maintained and are usually issue free.
  7. Need Help Roland VS540 printing random blue lines

Almost look like some sort of head strike. Do they line up with the head direction? What type of material is it? Does it only happen with that material?
  8. Mimaki CJV30 Strange Problem (Overspray / Blur)

I don't anymore... You should be able to find it on-line or a mimaki rep
  9. Need Help training for very new installation tech.

Interesting, incite. While I agree that the lower cost of entering the market has had issues with quality, pricing and service, I think that I would disagree that the wraps are a 'fad'. I do agree with you that we'll see a 'comeback' of sorts with cut vinyl due to it's lifespan and market...
  10. Mimaki CJV30 Strange Problem (Overspray / Blur)

Do you clean the capping unit? When operating mine, I found that daily cleaning of the heads and capping unit which included flushing the capping unit would fix most print issues problems. If your heads look good it might be an alignment issue.
  11. Need Help training for very new installation tech.

You say that "Wrapping is a fad and that in some markets it's already dying out", where do you get this info from? Is it personal experience, are there hard number to back this up somewhere? What type of markets are you talking about? Are you talking about full wraps, partial wraps, etc...
  12. applying grapic to clear acrilic

We do these all the time as well. For larger ones we usually wet apply with a large roller or smaller hand roller or a wet applicator. We use a clear dishsoap and water mix, spray the plex, spray the back of the material, float it on, spray top of material to reduce friction and apply. Let it...
  13. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

You would still have to trim them out, there would be a gap between the wood and clear that you would still have to trim. Right now he's using IJ35C which I believe is air-release where as a clear of the same price wouldn't have air-release and he would probably have to wet install which would...
  14. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

I'm pretty sure that he's not a sign maker or installer and has learned by doing it. He probably had a thought of 'I can make this better', either created the tech or re-purposed tech to create these and has found a nich market to cater towards, which is good for him as long as he's making money.
  15. Mimaki CJV30 Strange Problem (Overspray / Blur)

So when I had this issue with my JV3 it's could be a few issues. One I would look at it being a bad head but I thought that the black and magenta shared a head so than would mean that cyan/yellow might be going bad and needs to be replaced. Things i would try first: Daily cleaning of the...
  16. Pinch roller is tracking red ink all over print

What about laminating the print than cutting it.... also maybe give it more dry time?
  17. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

So you're printing out the graphic, than you run it through the plotter cutting out the number slots, than you're trying to apply the graphic to the board and it's getting deformed because the area between the numbers slots is to thin.... What everyone is saying is that after you run it through...
  18. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

So not sure what kind of eco-solvent printer your using but if it were me I would look at doing this: Using a cast vinyl and if you're rocking 3m try the 3m IJ180cv3 it will be more expensive but it won't shrink or pull away from the edges after a few weeks like the calendared vinyl will...
  19. smeared looking print on reflective

This looks like a profile issue. The banding looks like it's only in the brownish color. From what I remember on my JV3, try doing a really good head cleaning. What rip software are you using? Have you tried switching media types in your profile? If you are able to can you download a...
  20. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

Might have an idea, but need to know what type of equipment you have, printer, laminator, etc... and what type of material/laminate you use.
