  1. Big THANKS to The Vector Doctor

Thank you too Tomence. I quoted him the job in haste.... looked back at my quote and thought it was a couple dollars high. I re-quoted but he insisted on the higher original quote
  2. Elk Clipart

whew, glad it wasn't me complaining about the autotrace (I have before in other threads). But sadly many people are happy with autotraced files and it shows when I look around the web or vinyl graphics stuck on vans in the store parking lots
  3. always send the best art you have

And the other extreme. Someone sent me a 4foot x 8foot 600 dpi photoshop file of some basic text. Took longer to download, open and place into illustrator then it did to recreate
  4. always send the best art you have

Here is an example of what I am talking about. I did not ask why, but the first version of the logo sent to me looks like the attached. I said no way. A few minutes later I got a much higher resolution file Maybe they grabbed the wrong file on their hard drive. When you pick a file to attach...
  5. always send the best art you have

not too often. Mostly like what was also mentioned above. Sending the same file embedded in a word, powerpoint, excel, or eps/ai/pdf
  6. always send the best art you have

Some of you are probably thinking... duh, but it happens daily. A customer has 2 versions of the artwork and for some reason I get the worse of the 2 Another example is not scanning artwork at a decent resolution. I often get business cards placed on a scanner and scanned at 72 dpi
  7. always send the best art you have

"Sometimes I say no to force you to go look for better art" a tweet I posted some time ago.... In another thread someone asked why I was turning down a job. Probably 60% of the time, when I turn down a job eventually better art will appear when it forces my customer to do a bit more homework...
  8. a... house? I think

I usually do not quote on this open forum. I also don't know their expectations since I don't have enough info. I think that this Signarama location probably could have contacted me if there was interest in getting a quote or further details I quote jobs all day long. Rarely does anyone want to...
  9. a... house? I think

I cannot see the details that make up the trees. So if I spend 4-5 hours and the customer says that it is wrong or not what they had hoped for, do they have to pay? What if I never get it right? I could take a chance on a 10-15 minute job but nothing quite like this Most people are expecting...
  10. a... house? I think

The house I could have done, but I thought those trees were needed too. Thus the "not a chance"

  14. Actions Pallette - Calling Gurus

Yes there is in CS5. I skipped cs4 so I guess that won't work if it is missing in cs4

  17. anybody know this font?

    zapfino
  18. can illy users explain this to me

This is not an Illustrator issue. Curves are easy to draw and automatic. To do what you described does not happen on its' own or likely the fault of the designer It would be much harder to draw a curve with dozens of straight lines versus just using bezier tools or the arc/circle tool
