  1. Apple skin templates

If you're going to print 10,000 decals an hour, that is the type of machine you'll need. You'd be surprised, they could be running 2-3 shifts per day with equipment like that. Realize that profit margins at large commercial printing plants might only be 5-10% so they run their equipment all...
  2. Apple skin templates

Not to be a :thread Typically large runs like that are done by specialized flexographic printing presses. However, lately the HP Indigo digital presses are coming into their own as the quality and speed is very good. Neither of these actually do any "finishing" which is the die-cutting of...
  3. Mutoh / Macintosh Help.

Honestly, I'd go the route of having a dedicated PC to run your RIP software - especially if Fellers is throwing it in with the deal. Even though I'm also a "Mac guy" I still have one PC here in the shop that is both my RIP for Wasatch and controls my Summa cutter using Summa's Winplot...
  4. LX 800 finally here

Wow, that's a beast of a machine Mike. Good luck to you guys, I hope it's everything you expect it to be.
  5. Thinking of selling my Falcon outdoor/ PrismJet 2 yrs old

Didn't see any 48" machines on ebay, but here are 2 62" falcons. I'm going to guess if your machine is in excellent, like-new condition you could ask around $3-5k for it. *Remember, SW is selling new Prismjets (VJ-1204) for around $9k and I've seen used ones anywhere from $4-$7k based on...
  6. Intuos4 Medium Tablet

Yes, though Adobe Illustrator isn't really "sign" software. I come from a prepress/offset printing background so anything Adobe I'm very familiar with and more inclined to use. I don't know squat about Flexi or other sign software, but to each their own. *Doesn't really matter how you get...
  7. Intuos4 Medium Tablet

Wacom tablets work with Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw, so yes vector isn't a problem. I've got a medium sized Intuos 4 and while I don't use it all the time it has proven helpful when I want to freehand something real quick, or use it to do tedious point manipulations.
  8. 1304 "head wiper" question and maintenance uber-guide

No, doesn't wipe during printing - unless it is a very long run and it stops to do a head clean after so long. I believe rule of thumb is about every 6 months, though I waited almost a year to replace mine. The wiper just becomes very soft and gummy from the solvents over time and becomes...
  9. Laminator poll

Bill, I've looked at something similar and wondered how well they work. I'm not a high volume shop so it's hard to me to justify dropping $5k+ on a laminator. Do you know the brand name of yours, and where you got it?
  10. 96-120" printer azvailability

How about a 130" version of a big Mutoh like this? ;-) http://cgi.ebay.com/Mutoh-PJ-Osprey-3-3meter-130inch-Solvent-Printer-/280507478847?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item414f8c733f#ht_500wt_1156 Aside from that, I'm sure there are lots of vendors out there that would love to sell you a big...
  11. Caulk or glue

I've been using Titebond II on the edges of my MDO signs. Don't do a lot of MDO, but haven't had any problems so far.
  12. Wasatch Cutpath Situation

    No problem, glad to help.
  13. Wasatch Cutpath Situation

OK, also - I forgot to mention to make sure you also print the necessary crop marks for your cutter to use in order to see/register the printed piece for cutting. (Again, not sure what you know, and what you don't...)
  14. Wasatch Cutpath Situation

OK, not sure what you know, and what you don't....so bear with me. 1. Create your cut path in Illy 2. Create a new color swatch in Illy's palette (typically I use 100% Magenta) and rename it as CUTPATH (all one word, no spaces) make sure you create it as a spot color. This is the color you...
  15. Wasatch Cutpath Situation

What software are you using to create your artwork and cutpath?
  16. Illustrator Plugins

Good thread, thanks for the links.
  17. cleaning video...

Mark, don't know of any video but here is what I do for a thorough cleaning... I use the solvent cleaner available from SignWarehouse, though the fluid from a Mutoh cleaning cartridge will work too. 1. Remove side cover - this gets you the most access to the head and capping station. 2...
