  1. Photo Tex is Junk!!

Yup, but believe it or not there can be issues during manufacturing that contaminate certain portions of material and those portions of the roll get shipped regardless. (Leaky bearing, bug or mouse gettting sucked into some rollers, someone spraying WD-40 on a part of the machine nearby...etc.)...
  2. Newbie looking for experts advise and suggestions on Printers

Great advice (as always) from the other members. I was in your shoes a few years ago and I can tell you it is a slippery slope. That $10k printer from SW is a good deal, but realize you're going to need RIP software to run it as well as a computer and more than likely a cutter and a laminator...
  3. sponsor signs for little league

OP, as I re-read my last post I understand where you might think I'm a little too focused on the bottom dollar. So, I do understand where you're coming from. However, I cut a check 2 weeks ago to my local league for $400 to help sponsor a T-Ball team and that is ON TOP of the generous discount...
  4. sponsor signs for little league

This is your answer. Don't waste any more time thinking about it, thank them for considering you and let them move on. I really used to beat myself up over major differences in pricing, but I've come to realize it is the world we live in. There is always some jackwagon out there ready to give...
  5. Starting to show banding

Ditto on the PF adjustment, but another thing is have you cleaned your rails lately? I started getting some weird banding last year until I was told I need to be cleaning and lubing the rails on a monthly basis. Dirt, dust etc can build up on the rails and effect the smoothness of the head...
  6. Happy Birthday to the Vector Doctor!

    Happy belated B-Day Eric!!!
  7. sponsor signs for little league

Their pricing structure is totally flawed - or they initially got some lowballer to quote them prices who doesn't know squat. My cost to make their aluminum sign would be higher than the $125, plus what happens when the sponsor doesn't re-up the next year? Not to mention the PITA it will be...
  8. GX-24 problem, am I crazy??!!

I've never liked the 24" Roland machines - they just seem cheap and flimsy. They appear to built more for a hobbyist, not a professional sign maker. FWIW - I had both a Roland CX-300 and a CX-400 back when I first started out. Both machines were rock solid, reliable cutting machines. If you...
  9. Hello From NE Ohio

    Welcome from Columbus!
  10. sponsor signs for little league

Wait, are you saying the league is selling these spots to the sponsors for $125 or the league is currently paying $125 for each sign?
  11. Us tech laminator

I have to add my praise for the 65" unit (AK-600). With no experience ever running a laminator, I really was expecting more of a learning curve. However, after messing around with some smaller items I laminated a full box truck wrap yesterday (450 sq. ft) and only wasted 2 panels due to me...
  12. Blocked Nozzle on VJ1604

Not sure how you've been soaking your head, but I know I've seen others mention using a coffee filter soaked in solvent and then placing it on the capping station for several hours or even overnight. Not really sure about all the details, but perhaps one of them will chime in. That said, 3+...
  13. Us tech laminator

Well, after sitting on the fence for too long I just pulled the trigger on the AK-600 65" on Tuesday this week. The shipping company just delivered it a few hours ago. I'll get some pics up once it's assembled. I've got a box truck wrap to do next week that will tell me if I made a wise decision.
  14. Direct Sign Wholesale Catalog

Ginger, haven't seen it yet but I know there are lots of quality sheetfed and web printers out there - even here in Ohio. High quality catalogs/booklets like that and Fellers catalogs are usually cost prohibitive for small runs, so I imagine they probably had about 10,000-50,000+ printed to...
  15. Best Rip for large files

Usually I design box truck/semi trailers at 25% or 50% and then just use the RIP to enlarge it to full size. I'm using Wasatch, but I'm sure Flexi should do this as well.
  16. Need suggestions on cast printed vinyl/lam

I believe 8518 has a 3 year warranty because it has only been on the market a few years. I've used it a lot with no issues and I know Prowraps said he uses a bunch of it and hasn't had any problems. It's a cast laminate from 3M - really shouldn't be any problems.
  17. I gotta hand it to my wife...

All too rare these days, congratulations!
  18. Large plastic buttons/rivets on box truck.

Yup, we did 3 last year and they seem to be holding up OK.
