  1. Second attempt at illustrating a car...MGB

yeah I was wondering how you did those wire wheels and the whole car in such a short amount of time. No wonder the rims look realistic
  2. Now that's a headline to avoid.......

Panin-ful? Was that some intentional slip?
  3. what do you hate about your software?

I see the problem. I am using cs5 now and already forgot how older versions display things. The dark gray is actually the limits of Illustrator. NOTHING can go beyond that 227x227 square. In other words I cannot design a 30 long banner as this is 360 inches. The box in the center surrounded by a...
  4. what do you hate about your software?

I am not sure about the confusion. The last time I used corel draw (v10) there was also a non printing area. The page/doc/sign area was represented by a white box with a black outline and drop shadow(for effect and to appear like a sheet of paper I guess). This is no different in Illustrator...
  5. what do you hate about your software?

Huh? What 2 areas don't print? Only the area outside the white (bounded by the thin black line) won't print. For those of you that are confused... earlier versions of Illustrator are not gray but rather white. Only differentiated by the thin black line that shows the size of the page/doc size...
  6. what do you hate about your software?

non printing area, cropped out area
  7. what do you hate about your software?

The page is considered the printable area. Let's say someone orders a 24x18 sign. You lay it out on the 24x18 "page" or whatever you want to call it to make sure it all fits properly. The "artboard" or area around it is the area that can contain other shapes or junk if you will. I have seen...
  8. Vector Doctor, again!

Thank you all. It is nice to see that some things don't go unnoticed
  9. Illy Help Please

No it means the fonts will change spacing and formatting slightly. This started with I believe the CS suite. Newer versions of the software are supposedly "smarter " than the previous and make slight changes to the aforementioned. So if you open a cs2 file in cs3 and the fonts are live it will...
  10. what do you hate about your software?

No 2 signs/layouts are the same. One job I might need it to be 8.5x11 the next 18x24, and 36x48 and so on. Unless I did every job exactly the same size, then I could see needing it to open up ready to go, but why? I would prefer to always specify the doc/page size every time I start a new job. I...
  11. what do you hate about your software?

My "artboard" is 225 no matter what size page I specify in the beginning. Keep zooming out. When I zoom out to about 4% I can see the small page area and the full usable space of 225 around it. Though I am not sure why that is so important to you
  12. what do you hate about your software?

I have done many layouts or tracing for architects and they often specify exact letter heights, spacing, distance between objects, distances from edges, etc.
  13. what do you hate about your software?

    nope not in corel 10
  14. what do you hate about your software?

So you are saying in Corel every font ignores what I posted? Not sure how that is possible but I have not used corel since v10 You say that if you punch in 2 inch tall letters, then it is the same height as a 2 inch square in every font? It never works that way in Illustrator
  15. what do you hate about your software?

Here is a visual to what Bobby is saying. The green boxes are all 2 inch. The letter height of every one of these letters is 144pt = 2 inches. None are 2 inch tall cap letters and they even vary from one to the other. So even if you figured out what a 2 inch letter should be in points, the...
  16. Font ID's

  17. This is the coolest garage door ever!!!

that garage needs some exotics or classics.
  18. cs5.5 is 10% off

I REALLY like the interactive stroke width tool in illustrator. In the sample here, all 3 lines are the same line but 2 and 3 I adjusted the width of the stroke and it is fully editable for width with instant visual feedback. I could see this useful for creating cartoon like strokes
  19. cs5.5 is 10% off

Of the core programs, only Indesign will be an issue. Illustrator and Photoshop are still at v5. Only if you are designing for mobile phones and multimedia will you see any changes worth upgrading from 5 to 5.5
