  1. Suggestions for a 14" wide job...

We just did this the other day for a print that HAD to match an existing one (wrecked one door). It works "ok", but in this case I would go with a solvent print on clear overlay.
  2. Suggestions for a 14" wide job...

Our Mimaki JV3 printers will print a rich black that light cannot penetrate just fine. Use a double-strike or increase the saturation in the rip to achieve your desired results. Oh, by the way; print this on clear. Laminate it and laminate that onto the gold or install it as an overlay on the...
  3. Top Trade Shows for 3D

It is a MESS out there in the 3D world right now. Everybody is scrambling as innovations are happening daily. I would look into the molding/forming industry shows or contact the bigger manufacturers and see what shows they recommend.
  4. "Carriages are Disconnected" Error on SP-540V

When I used to run a Roland I bought my parts from Nazdar and the encoder strips were around $115 IIRC.
  5. "Carriages are Disconnected" Error on SP-540V

Clean the strip again, or flip the strip or replace the strip.
  6. Heat setting

I have never heard of that material, can you link a spec sheet or more info?
  7. Onyx shrinking prints when sending a print/cut file

I have found that if I am que-ing up a lot of jobs for later printing and I rip them for 54" material, and then rip other jobs for printing on 48" material and change my material size and print those other jobs first, it SOMETIMES messes up the widths of the earlier ripped jobs (resizing them to...
  8. Square Footage for NV2500 w/o extended roof?

PVO has a free PDF guide for basic SF measurements of all popular vehicles available to subscribers. It lists 405 sf for a standard low-roof NV.
  9. Onyx shrinking prints when sending a print/cut file

Our Onyx automatically "shrinks to fit" any oversized print, regardless if it has a cut or not. So, if your sheet size was set to 48" wide when you imported/ripped that file and you did not verify the size in the job editor, then this will happen.
  10. avery chrome

We wrapped the tailgate on the owner's truck here at the shop over a year ago, and it still looks good as new. The installer said it was real funky. We also printed on it and laminated it prior to install.
  11. Day/Night vinyl

Call up cheetah wraps, I bet they have it cheaper than fellers, and they sell by the foot!
  12. A Question of Ethics.....

Question #1: Did Customer A pay you for coming up with the pattern itself (a design fee), or just pay for the end product? If you kinda "threw in the design" for free as it was not really much artwork time and just charged for the final print/piece then Customer A has no room to complain. It...
  13. Best laminate for Gerber prints?

Mixing manufacturers will get you the run-around by them if anything ever does go wrong, and make it impossible to get real answers or help in that case. However, I have mixed and matched a lot of different materials in the solvent printing world with never any ill effects, so it "should" be...
  14. Needing a heavy duty vinyl or just clear coat the vinyl.

We doa lot of drums for a local company here, and we use 3m 680 (reflective). We also Edge Seal EVERYTHING, including the factory decals for them. Haven't had any troubles.
  15. Best laminate for Gerber prints?

We use 3M 8518/8519/8520 exclusively here for Edge prints, primarily 8519. We've only used that as far back as it was available; made literally millions and millions of edge printed decals and never had trouble. I would venture to guess we do around 50 yards/day of 280 and other Gerber...
  16. Transparent .png and .tiff printing faded background.

Is it a spot colors with transparency issue? Are there ANY spot colors in your document (including registration and CutContour)? If not, I would put a clipping mask on the artwork of flatten it with the matching black background Photoshop and drop it back in without transparency.
  17. Triple Boat Striping

If you do a lot of striping look into picking up a sprocket-fed plotter like a Gerber. They are awesome for cutting long striping. I have found that how the vinyl roll is resting on the plotter rollers is very important for straight tracking on our plotters here, and using the spool holders...
  18. does 3m ij80c control tac vinyl stick to the ford front fender flares?

Put on some Primer94 and it will last a bit longer than without.
  19. Rotary Trimmer

I used to have a cutter that looks a lot like the Foster Keencut 104". I know it cut down 8' length sheets... It had a replaceable trapezoid blade (standard utility blades) and cut anything I put in it, accurately, every time. (even polymetal) The clamp works great and it can cut multiple sheets...
  20. edge fx stop printing half way on 3rd color pass

As long as you hit home originally it'll still be fine.
