Hello everyone: Thank you for all your thoughts, at this point we are just trying to figure out where to go from here. All the equipment is gone, we managed to get the file server out before our section of the building went up in flames. Thank You again Scott Watson

4over does a frosted plastic card
  4. Sign companies raping other sign companies

This is a pet peeve of mine, we get other sign shops contact us to do things for them all the time (mostly engraving) and they always assume that they get wholesale pricing just because they have to resell it. I'm not a wholesaler, at best I will offer a trade discount, and the amount of that...

  6. static cling vinyl no print nice...how come?

Like Pat said. All static cling gets done on the gerber, if it's too big for that, i won't do it!

  8. Estimating Software

I'm going to take my hat out of this ring, The monthly subscription plan is what really gets me, I'm not an adobe user, but hopefully Corel doesn't follow in their footsteps.

  11. Black is driving me nuts!

I had the exact issue last week on my roland, ended up changing the black to 30/30/30/100 and ran on the sign&display preset. Also you may want to go to general formulations website, i've found their Automark profile to be awesome for 99% of my vinyl printing http://generalformulations.com/230.asp
  12. Maps on business cards and postcards

I've never seen a google map on a business card, your best bet if they insist would be to redraw a very simplified version in black/white.
  13. Are veterans better or special?

I know of quite a few people who have served in the military, and generally they come out of it a better person. If there were a compulsory service, who would pay for it? It would cost quite a bit to house, feed, train and pay all these new soldiers, would they be entitled to free healthcare...
  14. Printing an Excel File

how large is the file? I had to print a 20 foot long spreadsheet for some conference once, it was a nightmare, microsoft office files are designed to print on standard paper sizes.
  15. Estimating Software

If sign vox came out with 2 pricing models, 1 subscription based, and one flat rate, one time fee, I would consider it. if you keep signvox for 5 years, you have invested $7740 and you have absolutely nothing to show for it, you can't resell it to another sign company if you decide to move on...
  16. Worth the savings?

Fair enough, My personal experiences with trying to cut down material costs was a failure. I switched to a different supplier of banner material, since most of our banners are indoor or short term outdoor I thought we didn't need to use "the expensive stuff", switched to some no name chinese...
  17. Worth the savings?

aside from paper, banner material is the cheapest material you can print on (actually I think I pay more for my photo paper than I do for banner) you are talking about a $25 per roll difference to get material that is half as strong. if that is the difference between sink or swim for you you...
  18. Estimating Software

Signvox looked promising to us, however, there were 2 issues we had with it; 1- subscription based, i don't like the idea of paying for something and not owning it, I don't "rent" any other tools in the shop, I don't want to rent software either. 2- not all of our employees are computer savvy...
  19. translucent for non-translucent jobs?

like colorado said, it's not the vinyl quality that is the issue here, it the adhesive. vinyl that is made for vehicles has a removable adhesive, translucent vinyl has a permanent adhesive, any guesses what happens when it's time to remove a vinyl with a permanent adhesive from an expensive...
  20. Political signs...

just checked, this is well below my wholesale single colour screen print pricing. I've only ever done 1 job for a politician @ election time, and i charged what the job was worth, and they paid it.
