  1. The mother of all overspray!!!

thanks everyone for all the info. i'm thinking se signsupply is describing exactly what is going on here. the supplier i bought it from asked for me to send it back so they could test it. i'm cleaning up an old clogged head hoping i can get it working while waiting for a response. ...the...
  2. ****MIMAKI JV3 won't boot

did you take out the head to inspect for ink? and also did you get the new data ribbons yet?
  3. Roland FJ 50 dx2 head wash

yeah that stuff is great. i like to use the bissel hard floor cleaner. all aqueous cleaner's are basically distilled water and surfactant. the floor cleaners are non-sudsing surfactant.
  4. The mother of all overspray!!!

don't think so. the head prints crisply when blasting black ink. possibly the variable dot portion of the head's function is off. as far as the head rank, it can make up for very minor (almost indistinguishable) changes in print quality. the carbitol is very very friendly with triangle...
  5. The mother of all overspray!!!

@tsopis that is the only thing i haven't done is use a different cable. i will try that before heading off to bed. data swaps prove that the data is fine. but they don't prove that the cable is fine.
  6. The mother of all overspray!!!

i did put the recommended amount of solution in the head (straight butyl carbitol) ...wouldn't suggest putting in cleaning solution. that would be too hot to mix with the water based suspension in the head. carbitol is miscible in water. it has brand new dampers to it. to see if it was the...
  7. JUST CHANGED DAMPerS NOW NO BOOT

    pm'd you back.
  8. JUST CHANGED DAMPerS NOW NO BOOT

please do not keep attempting to turn it on. turn it off and unplug it. push the front button several times. there's probably a drop on ink that fell into a print head's data port or something. i've had this happen before. my printer came out of ok. the printer is trying to protect...
  9. memjet wide format - extreme speed

this is the first video that i've seen that shows the guts of the wide format printer. they are demo-ing a rigid stock box printer. near the end of the video they open up the top of the printer to expose the array (5 heads staggered). what will roland/mimaki/epson do when this thing can...
  10. Rasterlink pro5 issue

yep, but six inches per second? i'd have to slow that one down to 1" per second. haven't seen their website in a long time. gonna see if they've made a box printer yet.
  11. Rasterlink pro5 issue

@prateek kathuria how do you upgrade a jv3 to jv33? i'd love to do that. i've got my all converted to a flat bed with a lot of mods. really just hate the dx4 aspect of the printer. i want to figure out a way to turn it or some other solvent printer into a mono-chrome printer (all jets...
  12. The mother of all overspray!!!

bump.... sorry about the novel. has anyone seen overspray like this before? especially from a brand new head?
  13. The mother of all overspray!!!

long story (skip below line for short version) recently i decided to put my jv3 160sp in CMYKx2 mode. i needed to change out the #4 head (it was a proxy head. running dormant). i mostly print from the black channel. so i bought a new head, installed the old black head in the yellow #4...
  14. Help!!

when you say it got mangled. is this a printer cutter and the cutter separated? also was the head parked on the capping stations when you got in? if not your heads are dried out and you need to soak them. do a search on head soak on this forum to learn how. also, get a flashlight. push the...
  15. Looking into a possible CNC

keep in mind i know very very little about programming cnc files. i learned what i need to learn to make it work and that was it. ...i draw my files on a proxy platen in corel, export to .dxf, shopbot software converts the file to a .sbp and that is as much as i know. i've noticed if i...
  16. VP540 whole black head fires randomly

no you have one more thing to do. if the ribbons making the black weird went to the cyan port and made the cyan weird. you then completely take out the cables (label them). and put the cyan cables on your black head and your black cables on your cyan head (including the carriage board ports...
  17. VP540 whole black head fires randomly

so as far as isolating. does this print issue happen in all the heads? i see it doing it with black, then later with cyan. and which data cables did you swap. the swap can determine a number of things. if the head is bad, if the ribbon is bad, if the port (mimaki calls it a slider board...
  18. VP540 whole black head fires randomly

also when you are swapping there is a specific pattern that you have to retain. the cables have to be in pairs and stay in their top/bottom positions... as an example look at this rendering for a jv3 160sp. see how the cables move together. also, this is a pic of my loose cable issue. it...
  19. VP540 whole black head fires randomly

beware, you are about to hurt that printer. most likely loose data cable. turn the printer off, switch off, unplug, press the front button four times. reseat the cables.
  20. Looking into a possible CNC

you want to go just 4'. make sure the table cuts at least 49" (because mdf and others run 49"). mine goes out to 52" x 98". just enough to make a 4x8 not too tight. as far as the used system. if it's in decent shape it will do the job. vacuum hold down for here and there cutting isn't a...
