  1. Obsessed with work

well, there's a back story. one thing. i work out of my home. so my daughter (arden, 12 years old). is right across the hall from my office. so she "sees" me all day. also, in the last 10 months, she asked me to go to court for her so that her custody could be switched to me as a primary...
  2. Obsessed with work

nah... live to work. i can see the spirituality behind the "work to live". but my daughter is depending on her dad. and to me that gives me that extra 20% each day that i otherwise would have just collapsed from exhaustion. i watched my mom do the same (she was the breadwinner) so maybe it...
  3. Question for the Artists here

that is an engraving. there is one software that i've seen (there's probably others) http://www.pixation.com/ funny thing. this software was written by the inventor of the pixation wirejet painting machine.
  4. Artistic printing question

i'd start with ordering this book: http://www.digitalalchemybook.com/Digital_Alchemy_Book/Home.html i don't use any of the techniques, but it is a good starting place for mixed media digital. after a while you will probably modify lots of different processes and come up with your own trade...
  5. Best vector for the $$

corel. they way the program works makes more sense. maybe illustrator can do more. the last time i fooled with it, which was a few years ago, i was confounded by out counter intuitive the layout was. it seemed like i was making three moves in illy for every two moves in corel. became...
  6. When it Rains!!!!!!!!

looks to me like there are a lot of missing or scrunched ends. is that what i'm seeing? there maybe some cable companies out there that deal with flat data cables that have a male to male adapter for that. you might be able to just replace then end of it. something like this...
  7. When it Rains!!!!!!!!

there's usually twice as much contact surface as needed to properly seat data. with a very sharp quality pair of scissors, you can trim off the entire bottom of the cable (maybe 1mm) taking with it the flaked up tab of aluminum. ...if that is what you are currently dealing with. i've done it...
  8. Help in bringing hp 9000s back to life!

the hoses are so cheap, and you can order such small quantities, i'd suggest getting the one you feel you need and a little of the size above and below. i get lots of fittings from them and half the time wish i'd just shotgunned out a few extra sizes.
  9. Help in bringing hp 9000s back to life!

you can get all diameters and material types of hoses on smallparts.com. you'll need a calliper to measure what you already have to compare to the descriptions on the website.
  10. Ink explosion! Vj1304

if your pumps lines were fill of ink when the machine suspended, then the carriage parked itself. the weight of trapped ink can start a siphon as soon s the pump opens up. happened to me. emptied about four carts in 15 minutes. i still look at my carts every once in a while expecting them...
  11. Scaling Bitmaps - RIP vs PS

depends. if it's scaling down, there's nothing to lose. just let the rip do it. but scaling up i'd always want to get a look at the print file. there maybe some median and unsharp filters that can improve on the file's upsampling.
  12. No Such Thing

i see no point in avoiding emails and such. within 1.5 days i'm getting anxious to get back to work. i'm good for about 3 days max. after that i'm just not having fun anymore.
  13. my sp 540v mixes Yellow with Magenta

usually a clogged pump. you'll get some pooling in the cap and that color will leach up into the head a bit. you'll have to run an ink fill or pull some ink at the waste line for a bit on that cap tube to get the yellow out of your magenta head. just a bit of cross contamination. i'd look...
  14. Big decision

in many countries, expect to pay a 50% tax on the equipment you ship. whatever your budget is, 50% plus shipping it to get there gets you about twice the equipment for the same amount of money. not to mention horror stories of not being able to get your stuff out of customs. not so bad if...
  15. material or printer?

it helps if you have competing vendors a few miles apart. here in houston the vendors do anything to keep your business.
  16. Cleaning the printhead on 9600

search under "head soak". also if you want to go through a lot of cleaning fluid on that printer. distilled water and bissell hard floor cleaner makes an excellent home brew cleaning solution.
  17. material or printer?

looks like ink printing on top of adhesive. if it was ink (which it might be) there should be more of a doubling or tripling of density plus the back wash effect. it's hard to tell. to you see any of these marks in the margins?
  18. DX4 printhead cable short result whammy board

argh that's scary. so you can do it all perfect and zap. not cool. glad to hear you are about to get the purple beast breathing again.
  19. DX4 Manifold

i've noticed you need to make sure both are equally screwed. so you might want to do a half turn each alternating until they seem good and tight. otherwise you will see the pcb on the print head get warped a bit.
  20. try to identify material.

insignia's right... i didn't notice the reflection on the bottom of the "e"
