  1. Fishing the Rips

:Big Laugh Rookie. I used to put out at Slaughter Beach on the Delaware side in my 18', go clear across the bay, through the shipping lanes, and fish the lighthouses near the middle and south of the lanes. Used to catch good croaker and sea bass this time of year, but sold the boat years ago...
  2. Sign licences

We need both permits and to be a licensed contractor in our area. Permits are needed no matter how small the sign that will be permanently mounted or refaced.
  3. Shopbot PRT standard Zeroing

:Big Laugh I guess I should have elaborated... I let the defaults that I had programmed set the passes and speeds rather than changing them for the material at hand... and yes, machines will crash by themselves, whether it's due to static charge, outside influences (lightening, for instance)...
  4. Shopbot PRT standard Zeroing

Even with a new bit on a Standard that's a little quick for Signfoam. I just did the same thing and mine slowed dramaticly; I wasn't thinking and let the machine decide what it wanted to do. Usually I'll put a two-pass on most of my carved stuff - you can do it quicker and with less stress to...
  5. Spar Urethane Over Print???

I wouldn't. The urethane won't have anything to "grab" to if it's laminated. If it isn't laminated and you coat it, it may pucker the vinyl. But the urethane won't last over that, either. What exactly are you trying to do?
  6. This makes me sick to my stomach

What can you do - it's a 'sign of the times'. They have to do a huge volume just to break even - would you want to work that hard? Besides, they're in Arizona - what's the shipping gonna be?
  7. Check from scammer PART 2

Nigerian scammers have a week dedicated just to "Pat".... When scammers get an email from "Pat", they have to fight off the sudden urge to thank him...
  8. Firing a customer....Mixed emotions.

You can't decide for a customer whether his business name sucks or not - that's not your call. If he's been loyal over the years and paid on time, offer your opinion if he asks for it - don't volunteer it since it'll create issues (which, apparently, it did). Stick to your job and do your best...
  9. Applying Vinyl to Both Sides of a Substrate at Once

Better question: why? Do one side, then flip it and do the other. There is no time saver by doing both at the same time, even if it could be done.
  10. What bit to use for stainless steel...

Geez gang, can't anyone read? She's not cutting the sheet, she's trying to etch it. I'm with the camp of sending it out to a specialist who deals with stainless. A diamond drag would work, but if you've already done a sample and it worked, I'd simply order a handful of whatever bit you used and...
  11. Chrome Wrapped

Yikes. I'm not completely convinced that's a wrap, even though the decals do look like they are part of the finish... and the one photo of the driver's front wheel you can see some texture in the finish. Lots of "chrome" paints out there, and a couple different sprayable chrome finishes. I just...
  12. Anyway out of jury duty due to our business?

You're lucky, Gino. I just served a couple months ago. I did say it was a hardship since I was a one-man band, but tough toenails. Went in and was selected immediately and served a three day trial for an auto accident claim. Those who were chosen were all involved in an auto accident at one time...
  13. Coro-Plane lift off Sunday

That's a bummer. Since it was on the trailer, that would have made a good test if it were tethered to say.. a 5 meter rope. At least you'd be able to see if it would lift off the trailer at speed!
  14. looking at 60" printer in my area for wraps

Hazelton and the surrounding area is flooded with guys doing wraps. Unless you have a specific, built-in client base, you'd probably be better off subbing out to them for the prints.
  15. Good starter vinyl application kit?

:-) Don't laugh, Mosh. My house was built by it's original owner back in '24. Rumor has it that the only thing he had ever built previously was birdhouses.... and it shows in some places! Still standing, though, if not a little crooked in spots!
  16. Good starter vinyl application kit?

Carter... I think you need to come clean and tell us what exactly your plans are. You write in your profile that you have no experience, and yet you bought a plotter just to letter your own box truck? Huh? While it may have been "cheap", having a pro letter the truck would have been cheaper yet...
  17. Software to Convert a 2D image to 3D file (DFX)

It's not a true 3D - it's a lithopane, as iSign stated. I have that program and, while it works well, has definate limitations when it comes to translating greyscale photos.
  18. newer scam with VIN number?

Scam... say sure we do lettering. First time customers cash only.
  19. Im Dumb

Yep, what Fred said. Looks like converted illustrator artwork, which leaves points not connected and weird things with strokes.
  20. Mutoh Falcon Jr. + Vinyl Express 30" cutter

Too much. Maybe $1K for a package deal, or $600 for the printer alone. It's old technology now (well.. what isn't in a month?).
