You bought a free font? Interesting.
Thats how the font looks, it's not just your copy. It was digitized poorly to begin with. I've cut it as small as 3" but it's a pain to weed. You can make it bolder with an outline and if you set up the outline right it will smooth a lot of the issues out.

Two thoughts....first thing I would have done was gotten a whole lot more information about why they didn't like it. Were the colors bad? Were the fonts bad? Was it all too big/too small? Using 42.75" of the available 43" width is NEVER a good idea.
