Where did you get the impression that the center point is already known? As you see in the youtube video she is cutting from a random start point. The magnets we have DO NOT AND CANNOT HAVE A PRINTED CENTER POINT!
On the contrary, I thought maybe there was something out there already on the market that would help speed the production. We've been cutting circles from magnetic material by hand for over 10 years. Since I couldn't find an answer I looked at making my own. Although I appreciate everyone's...
Olfa? How would you find the center? See attached. You have to have four reference points as in my original illustration.
Templates? How is that any easier? You still cutting by hand. And a shaky one at that. Too much margin for error. It has to be made in such a way to allow ANY person to...
Some other factors you might consider.
Is there at least 3" on the tail end?
Make sure none of the reg marks got out of wack.
How long is the run? I have problems with anything over 115" especially reflective vinyl. That stuff gets too heavy
Are the pinch rollers at there strongest setting? Ours...
Might try a lint free cloth and alcohol wedge in between the camera eye. Sometimes it gets gunked up. Also physically track the edge of the paper as it goes and adjust accordingly. I've had success with this too even though the front two reg marks were lined up right.
Yeah, thought about using our Mimaki plotter but still would have a couple of problems.
1. Our magnetic material comes on a 24.125"w X ? roll. You have to incorporate registration marks in the print whereby cutting your usable space down significantly. We can get 3 - 8" magnets manually on the...
Yep, looked at Martha Stewart one too. Biggest problem with that one is that it only goes to 5 1/2". Our typical magnets are 8" and 10". Another problem I see is that their isn't a good way to line it up to your print. I suppose one could still use the blade from it though.
I'd say the W was clipart that was dropped in. I know CorelDRAW had a whole series of specialized letter clipart that came on discs part of the package. Not sure where they keep all that stuff now though.
This is exactly why my design above has four points to line up. There's no way with only two points. I also thought about the suction cup for the center. Might have to incorporate some sort of pads or rollers on the other points as the center would certainly raise it off the surface a bit.
Again...
What do you mean by templates? Like metal teplates That's pretty much the same thing we do now. Print circles and cut with a knife. Hand gets kind of tires after 30 -50 magnets.
