GARAVALIA copy looks too tight, i would loosen up the tracking a little bit... I agree with Gene, the phone number looks disconnected... overall nice layout.

---Better to get Corel (500 bucks) or Illustrator (subscription is only 50 bucks a month) ---get a better cutter 2000-3000 bucks ---get a bridge program 300-500 bucks With Corel or Illy you can design vinyl, printed (sub it out) business cards, logos and flyers that just vinyl "stickers"...
  4. Can I confiscate my signs

In California, any work over 500 bucks where he installs the signs requires a contractors license whether it's electrical or not or whether a permit is pulled or not. Even banners require a permit in most cities around here. If he built the signs and they were dropped off for the owner to put up...
  5. Now that's my type of sign

    umm, no pic...
  6. Can I confiscate my signs

I have not done any work in your state, but I would go here... http://www.nclbgc.org/ though it looks like you might be okay... signage looks like it falls under "Metal Erection" and there are probably limitations of what you can contract... like the job can not be over "X" amount of...
  7. Can I confiscate my signs

It varies from state to state... Some states are worse than California... Texas comes to mind with their consumer protection laws and only electrical sign contractors can DESIGN electrical signs.
  8. Can I confiscate my signs

Heard this before.... If the signs were contracted through you (you sold them and collected for the install) then you are still not doing this correctly. Would have been better if the installer sold the signs... try getting the installer to put a lien on the property... but it's doubtful they...
  9. Can I confiscate my signs

For the work you did, you need a contractors license. You are doing work illegally. If you continue to do this type of work, have the client install or GET A CONTRACTORS LICENSE! Not only is he technically not "legally required" to pay you the 30%, he may have a chance to get back the 70%...
  10. Can I confiscate my signs

Was the job over 500 bucks? Do you have a: C-45 Electrical sign contractors license? or a D-42 Non electrical contractors license?

  13. New monitor!!!

Apple has the same standard. My parents bought their first computer (an IMac) about 5 years ago, they were all excited, opened the box, turned the computer on... and 3 dead pixels smack dab in the middle of the screen. I called up support and they informed me of the same thing. I told them it...
  14. Is there anything I can do?

I don't think you are making fun of anyone, just venting. I am a sign designer too and have dealt with the same issues... I used to hear all kinds of things like the Picasso comment which was lame, or it's the bosses shop... which is 100% true. But you are the person in charge of your career and...
  15. Is there anything I can do?

I have heard this before... my response was "Picasso would suck as a sign designer"
  16. Is there anything I can do?

I would follow Gino's advice... then.... show your design work to a good designer to get an experienced appraisal of your skills. Too many times people come on here doing exactly what you are doing only to have the same or worse skills that the people they are being critical of. ... then...
  17. I want a classy font!

Classy to some people is a bottle of Hiedsieck 1907 Diamant Bleu cuvée, to others, a Coors Light poured in a cold Mason jar... Times Roman is the Colt 45 of typefaces...
  18. new monument project

On quite a few of the monument signs attached to footings, I call out j-bolts using a thick base plate on the cabinet and run reinforcement to the top of the sign at the area of the bolt connection. I call out internal post occasionally but still like to bolt the monument cabinet down to the...
  19. need info & opinions

If that is water, this is not normal, if water is getting behind the letter in that amount, that is poor adhesion (or application) to the backer. When water can get in, other crap can. There might be some bubbles, or voids, but this seems a bit too much. I usually prefer to rout the letter and...
  20. woohooo! FASTSIGNS airing on Undercover Boss on Friday (5/4)!

Gonna watch that one for sure... Do production sign women dress like that? She looks a lil' freaky with that get-up, I don't think I would hire an old punk chick unless she had passed out on the floor of a punk venue like CBGB, Cathay de Grande, Anti Club, Galaxy Cuckoo's Nest or similar...
