  1. windows cannot share file

I have had this problem with Signlab files on our original Internal Network. I ended up reinstalling all the software on all of the computers!!!! I could never figure out which one of the computers was causing it (there are 5). I have problems like this on networks before and eventually they...
  2. Mutoh or Roland question.

My friend who has another sign business has just upgraded from a Versacamm to a new Mutoh Valuejet 1614. Now he knows why i rant and rave about our Valuejet. He reckons it's twice as fast better quality and the prints are more scuff resistant than the Versacamm. SC
  3. Mutoh 1204 ink smudging

You can't print onto some reflective material. I had to print onto some reflective and two weeks later it still hadn't dried. What I would do is print onto clear then apply to reflective and then over overlaminate. Making an already expensive job even more expensive...LOL SC
  4. A general "Future of the Industry" discussion

I find no one wants to pay for design time and think that you have everything to hand on the computer!! This industry is going to die because we aren't charging enough (I sound like my accountant!) = or people don't have a clue how much hard work is put in not only making but designing there...
  5. printer choice

Mutoh Valuejet its a wonderful piece of kit. 2 machines are better than one!!!! Our 2 machines are much better than an all in one. It's a bit like a washer/drier when one part breaks down, you have to replace it as a complete unit. SC
  6. Left or Right Handed?

I can't really say I am ambidextrous but I hold my knife and fork the wrong way. I can do most things with both hands, including having two completley different signatures all dependent on which hand I choose. This doesn't make life any easier or harder it just means I can mess 2 things up at...
  7. external hard drive

We are running 2 Western Digital Mybooks with 2TB each for storage. They are clipped into the network one is for storage the other for backup. They have run for over 2 years without a glitch (even moving premises!) Both devices have about 85% free space so storage in the future is no problem...
  8. "Oh Buddy, you are WAAAY off!"

Mmmm I get at least 4-5 customers a week like this......LOL I normally show them how our door operates!!! As a reply to Steve Werner I would steer clear of big companies as they think they hold all the cards. I've done this sort of thing before and had businesses promise me all there work if I...
  9. Your thoughts on metallic solvent (eco) printing

I'm going to add my bit here.... I've watched this roland machine being launched and wondered why no one has asked how do the print heads not get blocked? I thought all metallic finishes had traces of metal (aluminum) to give them this finish. Surely this would block the heads?!!! I think it is...
  10. What should I pay an installer?

My question is why are you not doing the install? I have subbed work out before too people who are supposed to be trained and too be honest it damaged my business. If you employ someone to do it and if they are no good (not what they say they are) you can sack them! I know this sounds harsh but...
  11. Rant: Why do customers wait until last minute?

I wish I could say it was just business card customers that leave it the last minute. I had a customer in on Saturday Morning (I was just getting some stuff I had left as we are not normally open on weekends). He was opening on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and had forgotten his sign........LOL I know...
  12. Cutter Jammed? Y Position Sensor

About 4 years ago our graphtec plotter/printer jammed up dramatically and made some horrible noises whilst cutting some vinyl. After removing the material and restarting the machine I found that the y axis wasn't working. After a lot of searching and asking the tech people they diagnosed the...
  13. Silly question

I wouldn't even attempt it on any friction fed machine.
  14. About to murder photoshop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a friend that does all his designing on photoshop and then expects to be able to use his files to create big stuff. Yes it's ideal for business cards and flyers but it ain't any use for proper signs!!!!
  15. Roland revolutionary new wide-format inkjet printer?

I thought to make a true metalic it would have to have particles of alluminium and this has to block print heads!!!! I hope roland have thought this through! Because Roland and the like, use other peoples print heads and technology they will have to had develop a new print head and I don't know...
  16. how big of a computer do I need???

My advice is the biggest you can afford...... then a bit more!!!! You and I can't keep up with technology anymore so if when buying a new computer you over spec it. You will be able to keep up later on. I have used this advise everytime I upgraded and I guess it gives you 2 years longer before...
  17. full color plotter/cutter questions

We have a Valuejet 1604 and a matched mutoh plottter. My little bit of advice is buy the bigger size printer as you always end up wishing you did. I am always a bit sceptical about a machine that does both printing and cutting. I can be printing on one and cutting on the other. SC
  18. Head Crash ??

I've had our valuejet nearly 2 years and had 3 head crashes. Both times it was either wrong heat settings or the environment the machine was situated affecting the material. We run the machine at the higher head setting. I agree an anti crash sensor would be good also. I see you are also in the...
  19. Vakuejet 1604 Problem with PC Communication

This is the same set up and age of our machine. All we have ever done is feed it and it prints!!! It's either the computers network card gone down or lost the drivers. The best way and maybe easiest is connect another computer and see if the plug lights (meaning the connection is OK) Also check...
  20. Thinking about jumping back in!

I don't know your problem, unless you work at something that pays you even more money! I also like the word "take back" this suggest it is very cheap or even better free. What are you doing for work now? As far as I see if this business is still making money this is a no brainer.:frustrated: SC
