  4. Large Outdoor Banner Needed 5'x6' Printed

I wouldn't consider 5'x6' to be a large banner. We do those in-house. Although your customer may think the banner will be a long term sign, it isn't. Even screwed to a rigid surface like this one will be, it will fade in a year or two.
  5. Need Help Am I calculating my cost correctly?

The one thing nobody ever seems to include in the calculation is a pro-rating of the purchase cost of the printer and an average of 1-2 service/repair charges and a printhead a year or two, and the overhead cost of having a building and the people you pay and the insurance you buy....
  6. Tarrif Price Hike or Excuse?

Yep, this. UPS has used fuel surcharges to almost triple the charges to rural addresses for us in the last 4-5 years, despite the fact that prices went down and have only partially gone back up. Every time the price of oil on the futures market moves upwards we get a new download to update fuel...

  11. Etched Glass vinyl application

Depends what you are doing with the etch look vinyl. If you're cutting lettering and applying it as you would other vinyl lettering, do it dry. If you're applying large sheets to "frost" the window, do it wet like window tint.
  12. Looking for vector lake maps

I've had to do maps for customers and found that the state has a pdf of the official state highway map available for download. It is all vector, and has all the major lakes for our state plus a few in Arkansas and one in Oklahoma (under the box of text)...

  14. New Product Epson 60600 vs Summa DC5

I used to run a Summa DC3 back when they were brand new. I would recommend getting the Epson. I use one now (after several years of using a Mimaki). The print quality issues you are seeing are from incorrect profiles in the RIP and the printer. Maintenance on the Epson is really minimal and...
  15. Water Printing

Apparently hard to make a living at it. We've had several places have a go at it around here and none survived longer than 6 months.
  16. Just starting out in signs

Mike, please, whatever equipment you choose to buy, do some research on what real sign shops charge for their products and why. The pricing for signs does not work the same way as pricing for printed materials. You will not be doing your neighbors or or yourself any favors if you think that...
  17. Need Help Print cut decal pricing

A 3"x5" decal is just over a tenth of a square foot. Multiply that by 200 and you get a lot more than 4 sq ft. Maybe you were the one quoting against him?
