Because his wheels on on the same plane as the sign, right? And if those lamps are 72", I agree with your measurement 100%.
  2. Large Scale Stencil?

grid. i'd probably use an 8ft 2x4 and draw a level chalk line. Edit: I'd snap a chalk line. duh. its been a long time since i gridded anything.
  3. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

JUST SAY NO. Tell your partner you're not going to do it, end of story.
  4. Rant What do you think? Van vinyl

did they remove the old decal with a razor? that is definitely their fault. the paint coming up, idk, that happens with a bad paint job or if someone didn't wait for the paint to cure before installing new graphics. so the body shop screwed up, but it just happened that they screwed up on a...

  8. How do you contour cut rigid displays without a flatbed cutter?

they havent updated their blog in almost a year. did they get past the kickstarter funding? As a side note, I think Kickstarter is BS. I have something I paid for over a year ago, and they still haven't shipped. Does tooling REALLY take over a year to sort out? Its crazy how people risk...

are they cut vinyl letters or individual dimensional letters?
  10. Rant Is it unreasonable to turn these projects down?

My friend brought up a point a few months ago about discrimination. Like, if someone comes in with a political issue that you don't agree with, are you allowed to turn down the work? 13. Blade holder trick from SignCraft

Olive Oil also works :) Years ago we had this issue, and I thought we needed a new plotter. Someone suggested a drop of lubricant, which I didn't have, but we did have some olive oil in the kitchen, and it worked great.
  14. Lets see some pics of larger out of the ordinary jobs

my 4 year old son would love to be in your shop today.
  15. Lead times

I plan between 1-4 hours for prep / cleanup. We almost always spend more time at the shop getting ready and then cleaning out the van / putting tools away than we do actually installing the signs. And I usually budget 4 hours for the actually install. They usually don't take that long, but all...
  16. Lead times

2-3 weeks is right on, particularly with a big install. We typically need about half a day to prep for something like that and we schedule at least half a day for the install. We hired someone a few weeks ago who is doing great, but if you called me last month I would have said we are 5-6 weeks...
  17. What equipment can you not live without? When to buy it

We have the same one. My partner didn't think we needed it, but when I finally just bought it anyway he FINALLY agreed that it is not an optional piece of equipment.
  18. Question vinyl post & panel frame with wooden post re-enforcement ?

For a sign like the one you posted, we'd use a pressure treated 2x4 (i think, we haven't done one like that in a while.) But yeah, we prefer to treat what you're using as a post as a post sleeve. They are bigger than a 4x4 anyway.
