  1. Back Door Wrap thoughts??

Lots of good points brought up to improve this design, most importantly that it's far too cluttered and has no flow. You're not going to win every battle as a designer, but bringing these things up is worth doing, as early on as possible. Pushing the customer to a simpler, less cluttered design...
  2. business licenses....

Really? Here in BC most municipalities require you to get one of their business licenses if you plan to serve their area (i.e. installs). In the lower mainland that means if you're a small business in Vancouver and you plan to serve anywhere in a 1 hour radius, you'll need a business license for...
  3. Removal help please

I'm no expert, but I would pick at the corners a little, with and without a heat gun to see what works better. Once you've got a corner pulled back a little, then fold it over 180 degrees and pull very slowly.
  4. sign material storage

We have a metal storage rack that holds 4x8 sheets vertically. Each "slot" is only a few inches wide so the sheets don't lean very far, to reduce the chances of bending/warping the sheet. As long as our production people are careful, we don't generally have any issues with the sheets getting...
  5. Vehicle Wrap Spray Paint Removal

http://graphics.averydennison.com/content/dam/averydennison/graphics/na/en/documents/Instructional-Bulletins/General-Information/Cleaning-of-Anti-Graffiti-Films-Rev0.pdf Try this document from Avery. It's in regards to their anti graffiti film but it's a good general guide for what cleaning...
  6. Wrap direction - is wrap facing in useable?

Agreed. That's far too much waste. I also run a Roland and I factor in about 12" of extra length for each job, which is more than enough to avoid head strikes by starting the material 6-8 inches forward and then leaving a few extra inches at the end. I would only burn 24-36 inches at the start...
  7. Software to create a catalog of clipart from saved files

Actually, Adobe Bridge can do this with its "Output" feature. It's probably not the most well-known feature but it's fairly powerful. It will save a catalogue of your images to a PDF or a web page.
  8. Need a color profile

If you don't have the ability to make a custom profile and the manufacturer doesn't supply one, what I do is just get some profiles from competing brands (in this case Avery, 3M, etc.) that are for the same type of material. Do 3-4 test prints and it will likely be clear right away which one...
  9. Postermax in a retractable banner?

It's paper, so I doubt it will last as long as your polyester film, and it's not very white so the prints won't look as good. I wouldn't risk the quality over $8 of material savings. A good way to blow out your Postermax is to just sell it to customers who want a cheap, quick print - cheaper...
  10. Impending death of script fonts?

Note that most script fonts do not actually use cursive letters. They generally change the cursive letters to look more like regular letters, i.e. capital S, G and Q. This is because people already have difficulty reading cursive. Therefore, as long as typographers continue to make script fonts...
  11. Ga help please

A little late but Sounds like you've...:glasses::Cool 2: lost the plotter.
  12. reflective banner

Don't forget banners are almost always installed parallel to the road, and reflective material doesn't generally reflect at that angle. You'll definitely get better results though, if you use reflective cut vinyl on a non-reflective banner.
  13. Logo Critique

Great logo! Just a few general tips: Make sure you have a 1-colour version of the logo available, as it will be needed at some point (i.e. frosted vinyl). Be sure the logo looks good on a black background, given that the black outline and shadow will disappear. Two fonts of a similar style...
  14. Vinyl Color Match to Pantone Purple 527. Help!

Oracal's closest is 043 Lavendar (sic). Slightly bluer and not as saturated/bold. 3M apparently has a match for Pantone 525 called Pale Lavender, but it's not in my swatch book. 3M will also do a custom colour match if you're looking for 3000+ sqft.
  15. What do you do for electronic proofs?

Most customers wouldn't know how to unlock a secured PDF. However, the designer at your competitor's shop probably knows.
  16. carbon fiber film supplier ?

Try Proveer again. They should have the new Avery carbon fibre in black and white. I don't have any feedback on how the material is to use, but it looks fantastic!
  17. What do you do for electronic proofs?

We design in 1:1 or 1:10 scale, then drop the AI file of the design into an 8.5x11 proof template. Just place it - don't embed - that way it updates when you change the design file. If you want to save revisions in separate files, just relink in the proof so you don't have to resize it again...
  18. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP- Blue Tones in certain images

Well the problem is either in the image file, Versaworks, or the printer, right? Convert the image to RGB, flatten to JPEG, check the ICC profile (set to default or even remove it). If the problem persists then it's Versaworks or your printer. Try another RIP besides Versaworks, if possible...
  19. What does everyone else think?

Compared with the old logo, it's refreshing. It certainly looks a lot less dated. The Superman cape looks alright but I don't know if it's an appropriate theme for a sign company. On the other hand, one of the biggest realtor duos in our city uses the Batman Forever font on their logo and it...
