  1. Here snarkey, snarkey, snarkey...

I know it's a quick sketch, but here are some things I noticed One "i" has a round dot, the other is square. The town crier idea is good, but in the current layout of the logo it becomes way too small to be seen from a distance. Helvetica can look really slick on its own, but not like this. I...
  2. help with my dad

If you're doing a text-based logo, I would start by showing the customer a "classy" serif font, a "modern" sans-serif font and then maybe a retro 60s/70s style font. Most people don't know anything about typography, but when you explain in plain English how people will perceive their business in...
  3. need help figuring a price bracket for small sticker?

I gave up a long time ago, trying to find a simple formula for pricing stickers. Every sticker company I've subcontracted to or competed with seems to have a completely different method of pricing. It's quite common to find one company priced at 5x or 10x another for a similar order. Figure out...
  4. thinking of tweaking my logo (opinions)

I like the top one. But, I wonder how many customers hear about you and are unable to find you when they search online for "Wraps Inc".
  5. Cut vinyl question

Rules of thumb for cutting small text: Serif fonts (Times New Roman, Garamond, etc.) will be more difficult to weed than sans-serif (Helvetica, Arial). Anything smaller than 1" is where you should probably double check that your quote will account for the extra labour required - the...
  6. Font ID - serif

Hmm I think it's just Garamond stretched out of proportion, with custom capitals.
  7. Font ID - serif

  8. Roland cj-500 help...........

I don't know the answer to your question, but where do you buy your inks from? I call my Roland dealer's support technician all the time with questions like this.
  9. Roland Versaworks 4.2.0 don't read contour cut from EPS or PDF

Late answer, but if Versaworks isn't reading your contour cuts, it's almost always because you have an image with alpha transparency in your EPS/PDF file. It's a bug in Versaworks that I've brought up numerous times with Roland support over the past couple years and they still haven't fixed...
  10. Company Logo Redesign

Needs a better concept than a globe. Another more well-known company already has "Universal" in their name and a globe as their logo.
  11. Best wall wrap vinyl

Avery 2611 is also great for short term. We had some sitting in our shop for ages and I just tested it for the first time recently. I took it straight from the printer to the wall with no laminate and it was surprisingly easy to apply, and it matched the texture of the plain painted wall nicely...
  12. Window Perf Films - What are YOU using? (for the HP25500)

Perf without laminate on vehicles? That sounds dangerous. Does it not turn into beer goggles when it gets rained on?
  13. Oversized substrates

Alupanel, PVC, coroplast and other common substrates we use generally have a 4ft size limit (sometimes 5ft are available). Is it possible to get any of these in larger sizes like 6ft x 6ft or larger, or what alternative substrates can be used for extra large signs? Currently, I have a...
  14. Sandblasted sign on a boat?

Thanks for the advice, guys. So I don't sound like an idiot when I discuss this with my customer, what's the difference between v-carving, machining and routing? I know next to nothing about woodworking.
  15. Sandblasted sign on a boat?

I have a customer who wants us to do a sandblasted sign for her to mount on the side of a boat. Are there any particular types of wood and finishing that you guys would recommend, besides the standard finished cedar that we usually use? I've asked my sandblasting guy about it but I'd like to get...
  16. Need Layout critique "Wall of Fame" for Nursing home

Pay more attention to details. You misspelled Achievement and Perseverance. I'm sure I don't need to remind you how costly spelling mistakes can be in the signage business (in both materials and your reputation).
  17. examples of good storefront window graphic design?

If they have a good looking logo that can be reproduced in a single colour, frosted vinyl looks very classy. Or for an extra classy look, put the logo in reverse on the back of the window in black, then blockout a large stripe of frosted vinyl across the window, over the logo. You'll probably...
  18. New Logo,

These look good for a web-only company. If you have a storefront, however, you'll probably need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a logo that can be reproduced in a single colour and has better readability from a distance.
  19. Customer changes mind after approving proof and receiving banner.

If it's your design, then fix it. If it's the customer's own design they gave you, then it's 100% not your fault, but you might still discount a reprint to keep them happy.
