  2. Work Shops

Most employers usually train their employees themselves. You wouldn't have gotten into this profession without basic signmaking knowledge ...... right?
  3. What does this pay?

clear as mud here too! I thought you were asking what it would cost to train.

  5. If you won the lottery...

Hookers and Blow. That would be one helluva weekend.
  6. Communication skillz...

CutStudio should come with your cutter. I know that there are plugins for corel and illustrator. Many years ago, you could cut right out of those programs, but this new cutter does not allow that... as far as I know. I do not believe that there is a plugin for flexi, but I imagine you can...
  7. Crank It Up!!!

It's amazing how much just doing this will do. There's all kinds of crap running that you don't even know about. Make sure you don't have 2000 fonts installed and do a disk defrag once in a while. Run>msconfig>startup tab
  8. tools font

agreed.... Use clipart tools and arrange the letters yourself. Ain't rocket surgery...:)
  9. Some decals

Doesn't Harley Davidson OWN some sign shops because of this? Do what you want, but I'm not going to risk it all for a $20 decal, no matter how minimal the risk. ...Granted they were doing HUNDREDS of decals instead of the request of a walk-in.
  10. digital cameras

Buy a camera from a CAMERA company. Nikon, olympus, canon. And go with the biggest lens. They know what they're doing and have been for decades. I have a old 2.1 megapixel olympus camera that takes better looking pictures than my wifes 5mp canon. Bigger, better lens. Don't confuse megapixel...
  11. Corel Draw or Adobe which do you prefer?

Adobe and Corel each have their foot in different aspects of the design industry.... Print, Apparel, Signage.... I don't forsee either one of them changing that too much. As far as photo manipulation, photoshop is probably top notch, vector-based is situational depending on each field.
  12. Car Wrap Question

You'll need for them to define 'wraps'. I haven't seen too many race cars with full or either partial wraps. They might just be referring to a bunch of applications ALL OVER the car... not a wrap.
  13. Indentify The Font Game

I suck. I got 19/34. There's fonts on there that I have never even heard of!
  14. dumb question for the experts

I'm sure SOMEBODY makes them, but you need a film that can be cut COMPLETELY through, but be stiff enough to work as a stencil. You could have a nice setup. Designed in a vector based program, outputted to a small cutter, weed out your stencil and go to town! I wish I could eat my mistakes!
  15. Design Off #6

how unique!!! Good to see everyone's take on a different field of design.
  16. Ive been playing with my logo, not official, but how is this going

I usually design in black and white until I have a strong structure and then add the whistels and bangs. If you go the other way, you simply end up with a polished turd or you're dressing up a goat or some other crazy metaphor.
  17. Opinion on our logo, Should we change it....

Lingerie for pets and wild game, of course! I'm sitting on a gold mine!
  18. Opinion on our logo, Should we change it....

Do you honestly think that he has a picture of a plush rhino on the outside of his building? Do you think I have a picture of a cartoon deer in a BRA on the outside of mine? These are AVATARS
  19. Star?

    Or 30 secs in corel
  20. How can I allow client to browse fonts without .....

I tried printing out all my fonts one time, but I gave up when I got to D. Even at 8pt type, 50 to a page, I would have gone through about 400 sheets of paper or so. Do the math before you start printing. WHAT I WANT TO DO... Save them as pdfs and print it wide format and make WALLPAPER.
