With a little experimentation you can drill them out and stick a fine point sharpie in the casing.

If there's a gradient fill in the image some applications will "divide" that fill into bands of separate colors which may print well but certainly won't cut. You have to delete them and generate a new fill shape. Corel will even chop up fonts into halves instead of generating compound fills...

Well, it is possible with MacImprint. But that's Mac only and Illy 10 only. I've been using it for 10 years and have never owned another piece of Gerber software. It's an amazing little plug in and shame on Gerber for not upgrading and promoting it more.

In Illustrator, on the layers pallet there is a drop down. It says, "Paste remembers layers". Select that and give it a try.

Like I said, Graphtec comes with an Illustrator and Corel plug in driver. It should drive the plotter via USB. No special cables or dongles. YOu should be ready to go with what you already have.

Oracal 651 has little adhesion to it's backing paper. It's great for larger stuff though. The best vinyl for small, meaning 1/4" letters, is 3M 225 series with the clear plastic backer. It's the only vinyl I use for Highly detailed Edge prints.

Live Trace in Illy CS3 does a pretty decent job. It has a preview and some fine tuning controls.

Jim, I'll point you towards Graphtec. It comes with Illy CS2 plug in drivers. It sets registration marks for digital printing and cutting. I'm running a PosterJet RIP via Parallels/windoz XP right now and the combo works great.

Olga, Spend a couple thousand on a plotter and another hundred or so on your substrate and vinyl. Learn to cut, weed, premask and apply vinyl and sell the riders to your customer for $15 each. You will possibly make $2.50 a piece in profit, and that's if you don't count your actual time...

cp, How large is that actual V? Is it 2" or 1/2". If it's small, your just dealing with a general Edge issue, it's a 300 dpi printer and all small diagonals will show a bit of "stepping". The fact that you have a half tone happening only exaggerate the effect.
