  1. Who wants to talk me out of this?

I run my Edge daily too.. . . on my Mac. Using MacImprint which is an Illustrator 10 plug-in. Yea, Gerber at one time attempted to break into the Mac world and unfortunately, gave up to quickly. From what I've heard, they will not upgrade MI, which is just too bad. It has a learning curve that's...
  2. plus or minus printing white

It's pretty basic. If you print on allot of colored or clear substrates, you need white. If you print on mostly white stock, you don't.
  3. Die cutting with crop marks (how to?)

It looks like you've gotten allot of good info since I checked in. One thing you have to do is leave enough area OUTSIDE your registration marks for the pinch wheels of the plotter. If your ARMS cannot travel over your registration marks it cannot register. Another important thing is that you...
  4. Die cutting with crop marks (how to?)

Kimble, Actually, I'm pretty much doing exactly what your asking about. I'm designing In Illustrator and via Cutting Master, which you should have or can download, I'm setting my registration marks in the file. I'm also running a Windows XP RIP on my MacPro and printing said file using my...
  5. Die cutting with crop marks (how to?)

You can use Graphtec's Cutting Master plug in to set the crop marks in your Illustrator file. Your printer can print two "rows" of prints using the spacing in his RIP. That way, you will have enough waste material for your plotter to hang on to once you cut the two rows apart. Once you get...
  6. I Still Get Grainy Screens, Any Ideas

You really need to define your "grainy" issue. I'm having a hard time figuring out what your real problem is so it's hard to offer an meaningful solution. Can you post a few digital pictures alone with a ruler for scale so we can see what your actually talking about?
  7. Need to PRint a Good Screen

I've tried to get a good dense print on film on my HP5000 and have never come close to a solid positive image. Both pigment and dye inksets left much to be desired. I think you really need a piezo printed like the Epsons to get a good screen print film.
  8. Need help with Lexan Labels!

I do these a bit differently. I print as you did and the Df tape that I use has a clear backing on it so I cut in from the back also. I usually put 3 or 4 cutting paths on top of each other in Illustrator, (I print and cut with MacImprint), and cut almost through the lexan. They easily pop out...
  9. HP 5000ps will not read or recognize all ink cartridges

I've had this happen with one or two cartridges. I generally navigate to the replace cart window. I pull them all out and place them in an ultrasonic cleaner with water and a bit of dish soap for 30 seconds or so. I carefully dry the contacts and BLOT, not wipe the print heads. Snap them all...
  10. HP 5500ps Do I need to change the printheads from DYE to UV ink

The changover is a whole kit that takes about 20 minutes to swap out once you've done it a few times. I have both inksets for my 5000 and do to a hard drive failure, I may be parting it out before I put it to sleep. Feel free ti IM me if you're interested.
  11. Photoshop to Illustrator question

Well, lets just say that you can't cut out of Photoshop. However, if you can make a selection path in PhotoShop and save it in the Paths pallet that will be vector. Than go to file>export>paths to Illustrator, and you will have a Illy file with that vector path in it. It will be unfilled and...
  12. Exploring equipment to expand into in-house vinyl

Take a look at Graphtec. Top of the line plotter with CuttingMaster plug in to cut directly out of Illustrator on your Mac.
  13. Outrageous!!!

Count your blessings. The HP9000s is $4,500. Includes labor though. Haven't decided on re-upping this year. A grand more than last.
  14. Illustrator cs4 and cutting master 2. ????

I'd check out Graphtec's website and make sure that your version of CM will work with CS4. They may not have upgraded as of yet. It took awhile for CS3 to get updated also.
  15. Cataloging Software...

I have a little application on Mac called Disk Tracker. It makes a searchable registry of all of my removable media. It works great. Most of my archived jobs are on DVD Ram disks and even about 25 old Zip disks. I'm sure that there's some windows equivalent out there somewhere.
  16. Hp 5500 UV, Ink comes off?

My guess would be that you have the wrong material. Some gloss materials are aqueous coated, but only for the dye inks. The pigmented inks will never fully adhere to it. And to second what Bob said. These are not UV curable inks but pigmented UV Stable inks. I have both on my HP5000.
  17. Screen printing in your sign shop

It's more like we offer signs in our screen printing shop. We started out as a flatstock screen shop in 1980. Never have done the t-shirt route and never have regretted that decision. Back than is was hand brushed or screen printed. The only vinyl was white and we printed on it. We added a Mac...
  18. HELP ME PLEASE software??

Illy and Graphtec's Cutting master plug in. That's all you need. If you don't have disks, I think that you can download it from Graphtec's web site.
  19. Hello From Streator IL

Graphtec plotters come with Illustrator plug-ins for the Mac. Buy Illy and your ready to go . . . with some training.
  20. Masking or just REALLY good steady erasing?

I don't understand what your problem is I guess. If you've mastered the clipping mask than there should be a clean crisp edge after the mask is made. There should be no need to "erase" anything unless your talking about PhotoShop. If you are doing this in Photoshop don't mess with masking...
