I had the same issue last week. From a PC to my Mac. They originally send it as an attached eps. I suggested that they zip it as occasionally, code does get messed up in email.
When that didn't work I asked them to re-save as a straight .ai file. They attached that one and everything opened...
Bob,
Actually, I've never attempted to print without PosterJet. My original version was Mac native and my 5000 wasn't postscript so I couldn't print vector files without a RIP. I ran that on my Powerbook for years.
Now I'm stuck running Parallels>Windows Xp on my MacPro. It works fine, just a...
YOu have to manually move your knife to the area within the first registration mark to
start with. Than, if your print is close to square with the plotter, it should work.
There is also a .003" adhesive backed aluminum foil available. We have screen printed labels on it for years. It is thin enough that our customers run it through a typewriter to print serial numbers on it. It will not run through an Edge.

The Edge is not a continuous tone printer and you will never get an image that compares to an inkjet printer. 300x600 will make a difference, you're getting twice as many color ppi than at 300x300.

We run thousands of sheets of this yearly. 22' x28" polyguard, .024 thick.
Our supplier is Lamitech in NJ. 1-866-878-7708.

We screen print these with NazDar's 9700 series ink.
We do brushed mylar on the Edge all the time. We screen print on topcoated also
using enamel or all purpose inks. I've tested most of this on my HP9000s and it
generally runs or blurs with intersecting colors.
Laminating clear vinyl and printing that would be the only way to accomplish...
I own a screen shop and have owned an HP5000 which is almost identical to the unit that you are asking about. I had tested a number of clear substrates on this unit attempting to print an opaque enough film to burn a screen from and NEVER got even close to the density needed.
HP's are a thermal...
There are some decent videos on Graphtec America website. I suggest you take a look.
If you're using the Cutting Master plug in, it sounds like your doing the correct steps.
