Seriously, I disconnected a very expensive professional scanner and replaced it with the Canon. Technology has pushed scanners into two categories....really cheap and really expensive. Really cheap works...

Just rattling your cage, I don't have anything constructive to add to the discussion about Merritt.
Never done it with the brackets but my first concern would be the wind ripping the bolts through the MaxMetal. The stuff just does not handle much stress at all.
A quick frame between the two posts so you could secure it all the way around would be better in my opinion.
