  1. If today is Thursday then yesterday must have been Wednesday Plane udate

from the moment i heard of this project i said to myself 'self these guys need corporate sponsorship' i think my first post may have even said it...anyhow i am glad that you have decided to seek corporate sponsorship so that we can see this bad boy fly. "You see things; and you say, 'Why?'...
  2. A little logo help....

well i did read your initial post but thanks for the comment "if you read the first post you see why" but there are other elements in your design (which in my opinion need to be reworked..the chosen ideogram really isn't warm/inviting doesn;t portrait what this company is/does and is simply...
  3. MDO vs. Flatbed

the best 'sled' that i have seen that a client built is really simple approx. 1/4" X 2" don't know if it is steel or aluminum but they built a 4X 8 O.D with a "stringer" every foot and the "stringers" have pre drilled holes and these guys actually use a nail with a head and i have seen them...

  5. MDO vs. Flatbed

everyone that i know that prints mdo on both sides either picks through the pile for pieces within the tolerance they have identified being able to print....or they have built a sled on which they place the sheet and then using an air nail gun with small brads they pin the sheet down to the sled...

  8. What formula do you use to quote a job?

oy vei...advising ppl to low ball, yikes. from experience i can tell you that this is a flawed plan. when i opened my own shop i had this misguided idea as well...my experience of using this method of low pricing to build a client base was that yes, i was busy (you were correct about that) i...
  9. Would this p!$$ you off ?

we've all got competition...but there is a big difference between 'us' and the big guys (vista)etc. these large companies do not have intimate discussions with their clients (if any conversation at all). identify what your client's needs are and you have their business (the mega companies...
  10. Just thought i would share how this came out

what a great opportunity it would have been to upsell the vineyard to real gold leaf, especially on older cars. if you don't have the brush skills you could always cut vinyl and use it as a mask and obviously you've got weeding and applying vinyl down. nice piece for the portfolio
  11. Graffiti proofing mdo... or anything for that matter

yep BigFish has it tedlar laminate and if you get tagged have the customer get out there and wipe it down with sprayway grafitti removal spray..or they even make a wipe. most spraypaint, giant paint markers (graffitti artists love these) wipe right off.
  12. OMG, How Do I Compete?

i can not stress this enough. if your focus is the 'consumable' sign market you have BIG changes on the horizon, prices are falling and are going to fall lower.
  13. Red Tag

i've seen a few direct to vehicle printers. neat technology. know a beverage distributor that purchased one with the intent of regularly changing graphics (like monthly) but they were never able to solve all of their issues (mechanical issues, art issues, company issues, internal politics, the...
  14. Red Tag

these products are complimentary sales items and are nice extra money but they are complimentary sales items and not the foundation of your business...the majority of the sign companies that i know that heavily push the glossy cheapo business cards and related printed products from these...
  15. MDO vs. Flatbed

well Craig consider yourself lucky...the vast majority of the shops i work with that have flatbeds struggle with MDO but they are all printing it 2 sided. Gino since this post has been brought up from the depths did you try the solution that i suggested in our phone conversation and if so...

  17. Fierce Wind Problems... Any Ideas?

in my experience most of this type of sign mounting fails because of the swinging motion when the wind picks up which eventually wears at the sign or the hardware itself until it fails. i always try to mount signs with a rigid bracket rather than chains so that there is NO swing. i have built...
