Josh - Normally clipart does not and cannot be traded or "loaned", unless it was designed by the person that is giving it away. These things fall under copyright laws, and in some cases can get very serious. (Up to $250k fine per violation of the law)
I mention this because you are new and...
You may have seen many at shows but fooling with college logos is like playing with fire! They (colleges) are some of the worst in regards to unlicensed reproduction.
We do not feel that public colleges should have such proprietary rights but they do and they enforce them vigorously.
The solenoid may very well be bad. There are many places that can service these machines without having to go all the way back to the factory - which should help lessen your down-time.
The only one (svc. ctr.) that we know is right here in town, but I am sure you equipment seller would know...
Unless you are hell-bent on replacing the machine or sending it to Graphtec, you should not be playing with that stuff.
You state the machine "goes through the motions, but the blade does not go down far enough". You really need to clarify that statement. Are you trying to say that the axis...
Welcome to Signs101.
The question you should be asking is whether or not the GX300 is a quality machine - and the answer is "yes". Any further comparison between Graphtec ans Roland would be purely opinion.
While we know nothing about your Mimaki, your vendor is correct about the machines...
It will tell you what the market price is but more importantly it will tell you what types of jobs you should be doing.

We have never been in that situation BUT 99% of our vehicles are commercial and the package from DAL has never been wrong. There is no doubt that it costs more, but it does pay for itself in a very short time.
Just citing an issue we had on another machine. If you are running the HP monitoring software, disable it. Then see of your machine will detect your plotter. You may not be able to run both at the same time.
Unlike a printer - why would you want to network a plotter? Networking a plotter may give you more headaches than it is worth, and that is not making reference to the configuration - especially with a friction-fed plotter.
We understand that you are trying to set a smooth workflow. Your best...
Chino - In defense of KPS, that is not what he is trying to do. He did, though, jump in feet first and is now trying his damnedest to learn how to swim :Big Laugh . KPC also knows that this will not happen overnight.
Congrats onthe twins!
As for this board, Fred makes it possible, and the professional sign people are the ones with the information.
In terms of how "we" professional people react to some questions, look at it this way:
Would you call your plumber and ask about hard-learned knowledge to...
I will admit that I was hesitant to respond to this post, only for the sake of just letting it go. The more I think about it, I realize that it is just not going to happen.
Starting from the top.
As stated by even the forum's owner and administrator, Signs101 is intended to help...
....Which is why the thermals are still a better investment, for the return. I am so glad that you put numbers to it! It seems that nobody is taking the money out of thermal printing, as they have with solvents.
Outline - excuse the pun, but outlines are the leading cause of ribbon breakage.
KPC - Forget the cost of the machine, just for a moment.
The advantage with the inkjets is that the ink is much cheaper than the ribbons. Even an inkjet can and will print with CMY, instead of 100K. When this...
