  1. Signs 101 Membership Qualifications

That would be a dilettante, not a professional sign writer. One of the best shops, both for quality of output and equipage, was an in house shop for a grocery concessionaire in a large assortment of local discount chains. As full time sign writers, that's all we did, [we didn't unpack...
  2. Mutoh 1204

Whomever you spoke with doesn't know its ass from a warm muffin. I've been running a 1204 for years on the same 20A circuit as my plotter, radio, heat press, and assorted small power tools without a problem. Very often simultaneously. The printer operating normally doesn't draw all that much...
  3. Need some critique

Ah, an acceptable use of Mistral. Barely. I might try an antique quill script like Algonquin or some such. There's a bunch of them from which to choose.
  4. Signs 101 Membership Qualifications

Really? Which part have your determined is in error? Before you drop your keyboard into gear, be sure you comprehend the context of the original remark. Use simple declarative sentences, be specific, and do not equivocate. Any use of simple or complex qualifiers such as 'if', 'but', 'unless'...
  5. Signs 101 Membership Qualifications

Of course. Signs is signs, making signs is making signs.
  6. ENLARGE IMAGE How to know how much it can take

So you have a 100ppi image at 92"x26", not a half bad start. The image is what it is and to enlarge it requires that information be added to it. There's two ways to do this, just enarge each pixel, in your case 336:92, which comes to each pixel being enlarged 356% in both the X and Y...
  7. What are your pet peeves

Nephew art. Sign makers being allowed to design logos, business cards, and stationary. People who complain about overpopulation and then want to earthquake-proof schools. The incredible waste of materials that is doing vinyl.
  8. Need some critique

    Never bend text downwards.
  9. New racing t-shirt design...

Nice technical work, unfortunately the end product is pretty much indistinguishable from every other design in this genre.
  10. trouble getting stuff to print to scale

How long of a print are you doing? !/8" or 1/4" represents what part of 100 on your print? If, say, you're print is six feet and you're off 1/8" that's 1 part in 576 which is perfectly acceptable accuracy. In fact it's incredible accuracy considering you're using a friction feed device that's...
  11. Printing on Canvas

I use Clear Shield original formula satin. Thin it to the consistency of whole milk and apply it with a 4" foam brush. With not quite a dry brush. Takes less than 5 minute from start through cleanup. Most, if not all, clear coats in spray cans are solvent based. While you can get away with...
  12. Printing on Canvas

    Before.
  13. Printing on Canvas

You were told wrong. The ink, be it solvent, aqueous, or a finger dipped in mayonnaise [no, gag, Miracle Whip please], is only on a coating that's on the canvas. This coating has about zero abrasion resistance. That's the reason you always, as in always, want to coat a print on canvas...
  14. How do I fit an object to a path?

When you fit some object to a path it is necessarily distorted. In order to do what you want you'd need some sort of procedure that will add and/or remove rope segments rather than merely stretching them.
  15. why is it so hard to make people understand the simplest things

Not so duhh. The number set in most every typeface is mono-spaced. This is so that they will line up when set in columns. While a '1' is certainly narrower than a '0' generally they occupy the same character spacing. If you tightly kern multi-digit numbers they seldom look right.
  16. Printing on Canvas

First off it's 'giclee' not 'glicee'. Even at that it's merely a euphemistic transubstantiation for 'spray' that's affected by people who should know better that's meant to sound far more arty and obscure. If it's a reproduction of some sort of art then inarguably it's an art reproduction...
  17. Celticish looking

...and not to be used in all caps.
  18. what's the name of the font?

Why would you ever want to know? Are you trying to set the art of typography back a couple of centuries? That abomination looks like something some pre-teen scrawled on the cover of a three ring binder with a ruler and a ball point pen. Tell whoever wants you to actual use this piece of dreck...
  19. What computer should I get?

As with most straw man arguments, if your aunt had a dick she'd be your uncle. 1/20 of a second is measured in eons on the oldest, most stove-up, constipated machine you might uncover. Perhaps there in your Aunt Minnie's closet, the one she came out of. Restate your ridiculous example...
  20. Making Vehicle templates

You people work way too hard at something that's so easy. Set a standard 16x24 framing square flat against the subject to be scaled. On a vehicle I usually set it up against a side window. Take a picture trying as much as possible to keep the plane of the camera lens parallel with the plane...
