  1. Hiring contractors - who sets the hourly rate?

seems like a wrap contract should just be a flat-rate, with a deadline. take it, counter, or leave it. we recently got $10k for a wrap that was due in a week, and I worked 15hr days to make it happen. Heard through the grapevine that a handful of shops passed-up on the job because a week to...
  2. Dust under laminate tips?

dust dust EVERYWHERE! we only use the roller table to laminate small stuff we don't want to waste time webbing our laminator in the cleaner office room. the ceiling is usually the culprit in the shop, constantly raining dust when air disturbs it. Releasing liners from laminate generates a LOT...
  3. Rotate nested job in production manager

I've taped-on tails plenty of times Other times, i'll just deselect portions of my print&cut, to only cut the front-end first before rotating my page and outputting the remainder of my cuts.
  4. Need to update to Windows 10 - can I still run Signlab 8?

Can't speak for Signlab specifically, but i haven't had any issues yet running compatibility mode on older versions of software designed for windows 7. HIGHLY recommend using the googles to find the steps to making windows11 look like windows 7 and removing all the extra crap microsoft is...
  5. arlon 3170 laminate

Briteline WrapCast from Grimco is rebranded Arlon. unconfirmed, but they smell/feel identical and achieve the exact same finishes. I haven't had any delamination issues with either, but it definitely makes sense if you're laminating to dissimilar media.
  6. Bit for Aluminum

your upcut bit for aluminum may still work, if you can just simply route with enamel side face-down. you can always protect the face with some transfer mask if sliding-around your finished surface on a router table feels sketchy.
  7. Transfer Paper Cutting For Install

huge fan of leaving a ~1/2" border around my graphics, can loosely-trim after masking. this adds a square box to measure/level-to, & keeps the perimeter of the transfer mask from lifting up from the liner during handling.
  8. Window Perf HELP

yeah, wet applying sheet-laminated perf will do that. Uneven pockets of trapped moisture/surfactant. You can even get wicked deformities by unevenly stretching the product as you're attempting to simply dry-apply without transfer mask to help keep a bit more rigid as you're working your...
  9. Avery Supercast - Comparable films suggestions - I just can't with this stuff anymore

big fan of white>grey on glass. it just looks right. we use Briteline white trans vinyl for this application. white face&back, clear adhesive, decent pricepoint.
  10. Bronze plaques or.......

no budget? a proper plaque is out, unless you want to work for free :) you can always pour your own monument: some hdu foam lettering screwed into the bottom of a melamine box sprayed with mold release, and a very fine mix of crete poured in. Use an impact hammer drill to slap the sides of...
  11. Multi color vinyl production

printed if you can hit the green color. or printed on green vinyl, with a printer that has white ink option. or print&cut on green vinyl, with white lettering contour-cut out if applied to a white substrate.
  12. Laminating perforated vinyl

ya, paper-backed perf. lamex brand i believe. I roll on wet, and then re-roll with a dry/clean roller to spread&smooth. it really is a PITA and worthy of a liquid laminator if you're doing it on the regular, or if that's even possible considering how much the process floods the material and...
  13. Laminating perforated vinyl

I roll on ClearShield. Light coat, or two, and it doesn't fill in the holes.
  14. Air Quality By You

fine in wisco, blue skies abound...but brilliant red sunsets.
  15. Sweating

never had that issue from Watchfire or Daktronics. fans & airflow built-into every unit.
  16. Avery Supercast - Comparable films suggestions - I just can't with this stuff anymore

is the white/clear adhesive a deal breaker? there's some really great grey-backed conformable cast media out there and I've never seen my adhesive after install on glass but I use different vinyl for that application anyways.
  17. Rainbow Month support?

Target has plenty of support, if you're lookin' to expand your collection. ...hardware section, of course, but it might be tucked in the back
  18. Laminating perforated vinyl

well that should be a give-in. if you're printing on clear, and most likely applying it onto a clear/tinted window, then you've gotta be able to print white or its a bust anyways. however, I've never had a crash from printing a perforated fill pattern but I guess I've never tried doing it for...
  19. Standard/common practice question

potato tomato. pick your poison: -slapping on a printed overlay for the name/number change is cheaper/easier than production/removal of vinyl on vinyl -layering vinyl on vinyl adds to cost of the wrap. although it may save headache/time of getting the text in the wrap absolutely perfect with...
