  2. Finished Alley Mural

hey... you missed a spot! what's up with that blue side wall next door? Joe, you guys are incredible. just astounding to take something that monumental & get from rough sketch to this, in such a short time! I live the electric meter on the gas pump! Never noticed that before...
  3. Before/After planning stages

gray arrows are better, layouts without flourishes are tons better (IMO) I like simple triangle arrows better, and would put them all preceeding the copy. A ragged right edge of left justified copy looks fine, but a ragged line up of arrows looks wonky to me, when they could be a nice straight...
  4. Scared of heights? Step ladders make you nervous?

    A sphincter says what?
  5. Very short term window graphics

Matt from advantage sign supply (a long time Signs 101 supporter) was just telling me about a low-tack removable window film the other day, for possible use in place of static cling on a job I inquired about. I don't have any more details, but Matt Mollenbeek is in their Grand Rapids location...
  6. need a hand here

ditto I've been cutting vinyl a long time & I still avoid 100" cuts whenever possible... suggestion: get a moderate sized .jpg image of your sign layout & reply with the advanced tab.. then scroll down below the reply box & find the "manage attachments' button. From there you can upload...
  7. Do you hem all sides of banner?

15 oz scrim, upper class sides (& corners), lower class top & bottom. extra 1" sq. 15 oz reinforcement swatch behind every grommet. 5 years, no complaints *edit* ...I forgot, Mosh sews his hems... mine are only middle class sides :)
  8. Getting started as a hobby

My shop? ..any of us, in our OWN shop, where we alone make the rules? I can answer that... in fact I can tell you what happened today... a windsurfer came in asking about quotes to 8 sponsor logos printed on my $30K printer, so the advertising value of those logos would justify some board...
  9. Getting started as a hobby

  11. Static Cling - Heavy Ink Coverage Problem

My current challenge is sticking prints inside, facing outside. I have some edge ready white material & an unprinted swatch seems to stick fine face down or face up... but my supplier says it should always be used with the unprinted side contacting the glass. I would much rather print these on...
  12. Static Cling - Heavy Ink Coverage Problem

interesting seeing this post right now... I just got off the phone with Advantage sign discussing some static cling considerations & one this I just learned is that using solvent inks, it is not advisable to do full coverage (and i don't know if you are) because the solvents attack the material...

    hobbyist!! dabbler!
  14. Getting started as a hobby

and that, to me is the distinction.. that shows me you are interested in the activities themselves & not just in cutting costs. To me, that's a good enough reason to be here. Good luck!
  15. Getting started as a hobby

welcome WG. what is your day job? I think you seem like the right candidate for a warm welcome. I know the word hobby was probably your first mistake, but I think that still qualifies under the "If you are, once were, or want to be a professional sign maker, we invite you" terms.. so I invite...
  16. Let's help Al Checca! Panel Drive.

I will make sure i do something for the cause as well... ...in fact if anyone without a printer wants to see a digital print of their creation sent in their behalf... I can print & mount a few 12x18 aluminum panels for people who would like to design something, but don't have a printer. Sure...
  17. Harley Font

I've seen it written in a dozen letter styles, which one do you mean, the bar & shield one? Unless he's a designer (in which case he'd not be asking you) he probably would be content with anything remotely close.. if it's just a toolbox
  18. grainy .psd .bmp on pc600

First of all, your rules aren't going to fly here. You are free to start a conversation, but you will never be in control of it. It is a public conversation.. like walking in a bar starting to talk about 2 rival teams in that town.. you can talk about your team... but you don't get to tell other...
  19. This makes me sick to my stomach

    good point... - - - - - but, sorry... I can get it for 1 cent
  20. newbie help vinyl size

although this comment has no bearing on your question... I hope your not going to make that artwork all squeezed down like that... besides running you art below where it looks good, it's also so stretched that it looks bad... less is more.. at least about 1/3 less in my opinion, for the...
