  1. Magenta problem!

man guys. the first thing you do to diagnose ink starvation is to swap ink lines and see if the problem follows the ink line or stays at the print head/color. take the ink line and swap it to another color. run a magenta square only on some cheap paper. does the magenta drop out or does it...
  2. Installing your own heads?

as far as diagnosing patterns. a pattern with a missing halo in the middle of the pattern is a sign of a faulty head adapter. missing high or low points on the test draw is a sign of misaligned caps. that area isn't getting proper vacuum from the refresh. thus starved for ink. as far as...
  3. Installing your own heads?

for the dampers, order a bagillion dampers for $5 a piece from a chinese distributor and go through them like paper towels. also order some fresh ribbons for $3 each. the chinese ribbons are very heavy duty compared to the stock mimaki ribbons. also, i was a bit concerned about static...
  4. Installing your own heads?

i'm a newbie that recently had to change a jv3 head (160sp). the back hex screw is pretty hard to access. next time i do it. i'm going to buy a longer allen wrench and put a slight bend at the end. also, it's really tight. take off all the ribbons and all the dampers. i recently put super...
  5. Roland new launch VS640 !!!

i'm thinking about putting the metallic ink in my jv3160sp. currently i run white and a uv clear coat along side CMYK. i talked to a tech recently when picking up a part and he mentioned some "conductivity issues" with the metallic ink. wondering if he knew something from training that the...
  6. Installation question about drilling into brick

use a base that isn't predrilled. when you arrive a the site, set your holes so that they drill between the cracks of the brick. anchor with a lead expander. and go as deep as possible. when you set the base put a blob of industrial epoxy or something beneath in an attempt to fuse all the...
  7. switching to CMYKlmlcWW (need function keep help)

i've been running white for more than ten years. with an old encad 505 on a giant ramp printing on 5x10 aluminum. then a roland fj50. way before mimaki or roland introduced white. so i know a lot about white ink. i'm not running through the system. i'm replumbing my new/jv3160sp and will...

  9. switching to CMYKlmlcWW (need function keep help)

mimaki newbie here... currently i'm running SS2 CMYKlmlc (flush cartridges in open spots) on a jv3 160sp. adding two white cartridges to the set. i can't find the "choose ink type" portion of the function panel. is the choose ink only after a head wash procedure has been done? thanks, alan
  10. printer won't wake up. grrrr....

just checked the power supply voltages... the power supply surges/cycles consistently never landing on a single voltage. i checked it against a wall plug and got 122.3 steady. voltages are from left to right: orange 246 (!), 39, 17.6 ground ground ground blue 28, 4.3, 2.1 red 27...

  12. Major overspray

one other note... during the head replacement (which never happened). i think my power supply mysteriously went out in a strange way. not sure if they are related. i'm working on the printer early this week. the thread for that issue is: http://www.signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62516
  13. Major overspray

your head is bad. mine just did the same thing and soon after set itself on fire. had been using the printer for 10 years and never seen a head go out like this. so beware and just stop using that head. i attached a photo of my break down... so you can compare.
  14. printer won't wake up. grrrr....

i've got power. tested the power switch. interlocks... you mean the connections at the power? and old encad i used to use would (when the power supply would go out which was often) would sometimes allow the fan to come on but not the printer to boot up. a tech once said the firmware was...
  15. printer won't wake up. grrrr....

also... took off the front of the printer platen and saw that i could access the power supply fuse from that side. got .1-.4 ohms off of it.
  16. printer won't wake up. grrrr....

to anyone that might have mercy on a guy that just needs to get back to printing, ... putting on some new heads on my fj and... first off i noticed that a few of my inks were low so i went about filling up the low cartridges. my daughter was heading off to bed so i got distracted during...
  17. roland printhead meltdown (as in smoke)!

there was a burn mark on the ribbon but that was due to the head failure. i checked the ohms for each of the leads (21 i think) and got .4 ohms for each one consistantly. i'll replace this ribbon but i doubt there is any damage due to the head frying. as for the age of the head. i seldomly...
  18. roland printhead meltdown (as in smoke)!

no i left the head rank as was unswapped. the head rank, in my experience, simply improves printing performance very slightly if at all.
  19. roland printhead meltdown (as in smoke)!

contacts... i had just cleaned the heads out of the machine after swapping the postion. the contacts might have been wet from cleaning fluid on the back of the print head. that scenario would create to separate issues. 1) print head printing crazy patterns due to bad data (possibly...
  20. roland printhead meltdown (as in smoke)!

new meltdown image (better illustrates). try this one instead. easier to follow.
