best i've seen in vinyl form, that doesn't have the pitting/warping appearance of your "typical" chrome vinyl.... is chrome window tint.

square tube extrusion can get pricey for this purpose. they don't hold much weight, you can definitely save a buck by just bending up some U-channel out of .063.

doubt it was intentional. i print on materials not designed for print all the time, and see this effect more often on older media, even printables. could be a batch issue, or conditions such as moisture being trapped between the layers in the roll, or even migrating plasticizers in older stock...
